I just find it hard to believe it would come out of a factory like that, as i'm pretty sure its quite important to have a 'zero tolerance' on any steering/suspension related component, as that sort of movement cannot be beneficial surely?
As for the larger hole to help ease of assembly, i had...
Cheers Murcod, not sure about my handling as one of my rear shocks has decided fail and piss fluid out so the handling is somewhat interesting at the moment, but got a new shock on order so will let you know when this is fitted.
***Bolt pictured is another 12mm bolt as we didn't was to damage the original when welding - we used this to line up the washer - Original bolt refitted after***
Welded area was rust proofed with waxoil after this photo.
Right guys i collected the washers today and had them welded in place by my dad, I hadn't looked at the passenger side until today and it had similar wear to the d/side but not as bad, so we did both sides.
The noise on mine was quite loud and could be clearly heard by passengers so much so...
In the four weeks of owning my 172 i've only spotted 2 other RS's in over 2000 miles of driving! so not many round by me but plenty of normal clio's about though.
I've ordered another 2 washers from Renault same as the one pictured above - only £1.98 for two - welding them in place tomorrow will post pic's and let you know if it stops the noises.....and put the part number up for the washer....
Sounds like you need to get a set of wheels with the right offset - the wheels you are running will have an offset that is to low.
Basically the higher the offset the more the wheels are tucked in, the lower the offset the more they stick out.
With a higher offset you have the option of...
Alex the front washer is not welded in place but does look to have avoided any wear at the front.
I think now that the damage has been caused that the washer would do very little without being welded. I'm Hoping to get mine done in the next week as i'm going to the nurburgring on the 27th! so...
Will probably be a loose connection under one of the front seats for the air bags - mine does it now and then and i wiggle the wires around under the passenger seat and the light goes off.
I've got a phase 1 clio with a typical really tatty wheel, what aftermarket steering wheels are any of you guys running? Not to fussed about losing the airbag, so no comments about me being stupid for removing it ;)
What happens with the airbag light, do you need to fit some kind of resistor...
Electric 12v impact wrench works just aswell, i bought a Richmond one from Halfords for about £20 with a 1/2" drive a few years ago plug it into your fag lighter and away you go!!! best tool i've EVER bought!!! get one ;) used it for many a suspension change :)
Mark One, i meant to say on my post that the very front control arm subframe mount has a washer in place between the bolt head hole in the subframe (the front mount where you have the arm from the body fixed to the control arm/subframe mount) this hole was perfect but the washer its self had...
Right guys i have checked mine today.
Mine's a 2000 phase 1 172 with 106,000 miles on the clock.
I've been suffering a from clunking from o/side front since i have owned the car. I have took it to a garage to investigate it and all they could find was some slight play in the driveshaft and...
Yeah read that to, but they look fairly new to be honest - i've looked at the uprated mounts but at £80 a pop its an expensive bill - how much are standard mounts?
Well i was hoping to debadge it, so was hoping it was just bonded on i.e. no holes.
As i quite like the Renault Sport badge but hate the font of the clio badge - sad i know! but wanted to whip that off and put a nurburgring sticker in its place when i go later this month......
yeah i read about top mounts when i used the search funtion for clunks, but it sounds to low down on the car to be the mounts, but sound does travel i suppose! i can see it being one of these annoying faults that is going to be a process of elimination....
I bought a phase 1 172 clio a couple of weeks back and since i've had when you pull away it you can hear a clicky/clunking noise - from the offside front of the car.....
So i took it to my local garage and told them to give it a once over and check for any worn ball joints, play in...

I picked up a black phase 1 a couple of weeks ago, with slightly high mileage 104k (motorway mileage) but it had a full service history recording cambelt change etc, including some high standard mod's - uprated suspension, induction kit, stainless exhaust for £1850 - so for £3k you should be...
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and i bought a Pearl Black phase 1 172 last Wednesday.
It's going to be my daily driver, will be covering upto 18k a year and doing the odd trackday and trips to the Nurburgring - so i'm hoping it proves to be reliable!
I went for this particular 172 because it...
