Well i have shamefully neglected my phase 1 172 (last taxed 2009!)...basically my mileage at work started getting silly and i couldn't bring myself to sell my phase 1 so bought a low mileage phase 2 and laid it up for much longer than i expected, mostly outside aswell :S But the time has come...

I'd say the number of Phase 1's is deifnately steadily reducing, everytime i go on ebay or the classifieds on here there is one being broken for spares - suppose its the fact that if the cambelt is due or has gone there often worth more in spares....and not to forget they are 12 yrs old now....

Good question! the car has a bit of dodgy past, i picked it up as a cat 'd' it had panel damage and most windows smashed!! it had the windows replaced before i picked it up and then i sorted the bodywork. When i got it the speedo didn't work so i assumed it would be a dodgy speedo sensor...

Just to add you just pour the k-seal into your coolant but just make sure you shake the bottle really well before you put it in.

Agree with Dan, quite an easy fix IMO. Panel is hardly distorted and that would weld up no problem (nice a slowly though to avoid distorting the panel!!) My Phase 2 was a cat 'd' write off with this damage, We replaced the door asap as it wasn't worth the hours trying to get that straight...

I'd buy a second hand fuel rail and swap the lot over, i got one posted off someone on here for a about £25.... and its so easy to swap them over. Your describing pretty much what was happening to mine, misfire, stinking of fuel and no warning lights - but one of my plugs was clearly blacker...
