I'd not rush into the 1.1.4 update until Ziphone had been fully tested with it. I think for now it will not unlock the iPhone.

I always leave wifi on and easily achieve 2 days standby from my iPhone. 4-5 hours actual usage seems to be about the cut off period for my battery.
Gmail working fine for me too other than the occasional time where it is unable to connect to the gmail servers.
I setup my account using the Gmail button found within the Mail app on first launch.
On a PC you can sync your contacts from Outlook, this option is found in iTunes.
If you can sync your existing phone with Outlook first then that'll be the easiest way to copy them over.
You need to run Ziphone and it will get the iPhone working for you. With an o2 sim you should only need to Jailbreak and Activate the iPhone, an unlock should not be required.
My brother bought a 16gb iPhone on Wed and I unlocked it for him. I think he's decided to switch to a iPhone tariff now.
For corporate email access try the 60 day trials found at these two sites. Between them that's 4 months worth of free access to Exchange. I tested one of these on my brothers...

My VM connection was dead when I got home yesterday, a engineer is booked for tomorrow morning. The upstream is constantly ranging.
The data connection to the V+ box is also offline so it must be the line into the house that is causing the problem.
I've restored back to the official Apple 1.1.3 OS. The Jailbreak was good but I found the handset to be less reliable. The data connection would occasionally not work and the phone would require a reboot at least once per day. Maybe this happens if you have ran only a Jailbreak on a o2 tariff...
I could not place web links on the Home screen but I've restored to 1.1.3 and used Ziphone v2.2 GUI this morning and all is working perfectly. v2.1 had one or two bugs that are now fixed.
