o2 stores will now be offering upgrades to existing iPhone customers on Friday due to the f**k up of this morning. An email was sent out this afternoon.

What a feckin mess this online upgrade system is. 6 hours later and I'm no closer to securing my order.

It looks certain now that the PAYG handset will not be on sale immediately. Signs in the o2 shops simply say 'pay as you go version due later this year'. EDIT: Ooops hadn't noticed a reply on this page already :D

All depends if you are still in contract. If not you follow the traditional upgrade path otherwise you must await the end of your existing contract.

You'll know for sure next Friday, nice result if you are able to use the discount :) If so choose the 16gb model for only £59 on the £45 per month tariff.

The Apple Store? I'd be surprised if they even know as they will not be selling the contract iPhone 3G.

We'll not know until o2 make an official announcement. The retail stores are giving out inconsistent information. My guess is that all models will be available on the 11th. From reading other comments online I doubt you'll get a discount on the iPhone tariff.

Also if the 30% discount deal is part of the John Lewis partnership with o2 then the iPhone tariffs are apparently not included.

The 16gb will come in white or black.

O2 can expect to have less than impressive sales figures on launch if that is true. It could be that the stores will not receive the 16gb for launch and this will only be available online.

I'll be surprised if the 16gb iPhone is not released next week, all indiciations are that it will be but possibly only in black. The keynote speech stated that both the 8gb and 16gb would be available on the 11th July. My local o2 store also say they are expecting both next week.

Oddly O2 have removed the PAYG details from their site, perhaps they went live with that info earlier than they should have.

I think those prices are fair. Fractionally more expensive than the rrp of the outgoing iPhone so not bad at all if you will use the 6 months inc data access. Even for people buying them to unlock it will cost roughly what was expected, slightly cheaper even.

Texting is very easy after a day or two, not any more difficult than a standard phone keypad. The added capacity of the 16gb phone may prove handy if you plan on using the App Store.

No they are a identical spec. The white only comes in 16gb capacity.

It must be FAT32 formatted.

AOL are IMO terrible so I'd not recommend them to anyone. If you are happy though then I'm sure you have no real reason to move.

I think they have said that the metal did not allow a good enough signal for the phone, gps, wifi or BT. Plastic was the best option.
