I don’t like buying off a dealer for any car, you don’t know it’s history or what the last owner was like and end up generally paying more for the car.

Insurance makes sense to me, once you figure out that a £500 banger or a £10k Car. Isn’t that much in the grand scheme of an insurance claim.
And newer more expensive cars are actually less likely to crash, so makes sense for them to be cheaper.
Think about it, a slow car, that’s not at good at braking, handling etc etc Is actually more dangerous than a performance Car with better brakes, more safety equipment etc.
As long as it’s driven sensibly, which I assume you would, being 49 with 30 years experience and no claims.
