Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Yeah, but there should be *some* movement - correct? Or do you mean movement as in the CV should be solid and the movement should come from the gearbox end? lol
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Yeah, found the value on here!
TBF I usually just do them tight tight and never had a problem, then found the value on here and it was just like 1/10th of a turn more if that until the torque wrench clicked...just so I knew it was tight and not that causing...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Hub nuts @ 280Nm, lol. Brand new bearing too!
Only just swapped the f*cking shaft back to my own and knowing my luck it will be knackered now. Will try full lock in a bit
They're too tall IIRC
I modded mine (machined hubs down and made the holes 0.5mm larger) in October 2008, covered 20k and alot of trackdays and they are still as they were - same coilovers, same setup, never had an issue like this...
The only difference is - I milled my hubs down on a milling...

Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Yeah, no movement anywhere apart from the driveshaft if sat still and just jacked up!

Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Cheers for the comment!
After driving the car with the shafts changed, a knocking had started from the N/S front. It was more of a hollow knocking noise rather than a clunk - but I thought yeah its possibly a ball joint.
Checked...
My local (General Traffic) could get them, along with a few others (CES, Andrew Page)...
Not sure who's local to you? I know 'Andrew Cooke' on here just bought one himself, its mentioned in his project thread
Just fit the 172 Ph1 running gear to the Mk1 Subframe, I have it all on mine (Wrote a guide)
Everything physically fits and bolts together fine, but if you did it you would need a Williams steering rack due to it being so much wider than a valver. With Williams widetrack you can get away with...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Righty then - driveshafts finally sorted.
As mentioned a few pages back I have always had problems with the hub nut thread on the N/S driveshaft, i.e. the nut not going on. I got a scrap driveshaft from Whiteley and attmpted to swap the...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
