Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild] Yeah, still got my gearbox-to-chassis earth on (passenger wheel arch). Starter turns every time without fail. Going to get this new loom sorted, get it on and then start changing stuff like leads until the problem f*cks off hopefully!

Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild] Started it earlier and it fired up first time again...but now Im getting some crazy sort of missfire (sounds like its running on 3.5) and it dosent want to rev up. Checked lead order and they are all fine, not tried my spare coilpack yet...

My 172 ECU earths to the back of the gearbox, then the gearbox has an earth strap on the end going to the passenger wheel arch.

Im pretty sure the inlet cam needs to be advanced 16 degrees if the VVT has been removed unless it was specifically purchased from Cat as a Non-VVT cam, that could explain the lack of power... Im sure someone will confirm that...

Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild] Well there are 3 earths coming from the ECU to that one, all go into one crimp then usually onto the back of the gearbox. Im guessing it could have some effect, as its used as the sensor earths for the ECU itself... Speaking of coilpack...

You'd be able to tell if they were very low milage new (assuming they are) cams anyway compared to a set of high milage standard/OE cams

Alternator should be fine if its running OK when youve bumped it...check it with a multi-meter at the battery though, ~14 Volts is a good working alternator. If it starts fine with leads then yeh most probably battery

Does it jump start if you hook it upto another car with leads?

Would probably make it worse, 205 at a push but then thats a bit wide for a 15in wheel thats 7in wide. Just needs the pressures upping slightly.

172 Ph1 Driveshaft, single piece (i.e. no support bearing on the back of the engine block). The gaiter closest to the gearbox is split, and im trying to get hold of a replacement from somewhere other than Renault. Ive replaced other outer gaiters in the past and they are a couple of quid...
