I found a polish company that do make replacement rocker cover gaskets, so bought some (over £100 for the 4, yikes!). Also ordered some door lock solenoids, i'm going to do those as they stopped working, and do an oil service and reseat the sump with a new seal are it looks like its weeping a...
Straightened out the boot spoiler - there was a dip inthe middle bar
Then I had to strip the door locks as in the cold the doors (BOTH fronts!) stopped latching. Was on a test drive with a potential buyer and stopped for fuel. Doors wouldnt close. Perfect timing, of course.
Also fixed the...
After the engine swap, I did some miles in it and mentioned in passing on facebook it would be up for sale. That resulted in a chap coming to see it and we agreed a deal for it, with me taking his current 21 Turbo in px (also a J plate but black). Its pretty sickly, thread will be forthcoming at...
After many miles of problem free motoring....this happened. Fortunately as I was reversing on to my drive.
Brief investigation suggested a power steering fluid leak which was later confirmed.
Looks like the steel fluid pipe underneath has corroded and developed a pinhole leak. Its one...
Here are my suggestions.
A Classic, Chime by Orbital.
The first track on the album I always play on a road trip across Europe, Seven Cities (Solar Stone’s Atlantis Mix). Full version, best played around sunset.
And Prodigy, Jericho. Nobody ever needs a reason to play a Prodigy track...
Not tried sessions like this before, so keeping an open mind until I try it. Booked for session C.
Thank you CS crew for putting the effort in to organise this.
My Mrs officially requests we go back to Anglesey next year, she likes the weekend away up there! LOL
I bought a genuine Renault one, I didnt want to have to hack stuff around with the copies, plus I saw there was mixed feedback on fit & quality. Not cheap but bolt-on once painted and then my original LY spoiler went in the garage in bubble wrap. Spoiler defo rounds the car off, much like the...
Are we all ready for another storytime of woe and misery?
Good, because I have one for you!
So - I got everything done and was ready to put it up for sale. Cleaned it up, took the pics. Looking sharp.
On the road, tax, insurance and MOT. All good right?
Wrong.
I noticed when it was up...
It wont fix it, its not the cause of the issue. Apparently the kangarooing is caused by the ECU retarding the timing to try and heat the catalyst, but in a typically french style whichever bright spark programmed it did it in a retarded way that causes this kangarooing symptom.
Take it to EFI...
It does, in pics and from distance, unfortunately when you get up close there is microblisters in the paint on the bonnet & roof, whoever painted it messed up with moisture in the paint I think.
Not sure if I am game for shelling out for more paint myself, I have thousands in it in cash and...
Got a last minute request from the Renault Classic Car Club to fill in at the NEC Classic Car Show. Came with a free ticket so I cleaned it up and dropped it off
(and yes I got the wheel centres sorted)
Drives well, doesnt overheat, fluids and pressured good. Leaking some...
I've had an aftermarket set for about 10 years and never had an issue, as long as you use it properly and dont stress the horseshoe. You need the pulley lock bits.
Losange Passion in Montlhery, the single best Renault car show I have ever been to. Then over to Stuttgart for the Porsche & Mercedes museums, then up to the 'ring for a couple of days and finally the last night in the V8 Hotel Motorworld Region Stuttgart before heading home.
TurboRenault.co.uk - the club we started over 10 years ago to reclaim lost forum/club members from social media. The R5 GTT clubs were dying off, as was the 21 Turbo Owners Club, we amalgamated a few different places together to for TurboRenault - been growing ever since. We run with no...
Incidentally, on the turbo, since fitting the replacement I have done well over a thousand miles home plus given it a kicking after i got back and its fine...so the failure wasnt the car (oil feed, overheating core or whatever). It just...let go.
My enormous gratitude to Matt, for taking me...
Wednesday. Woke up, had food, the plan for the day was a boat trip on the lake but that went out the window. TR chat group were helping trying to find a solution. Andy Bond found a use turbo 2 hours east, so messaged the ebay seller and said I wanted to collect today. They said OK and Roger H...
nday.
Drove Cov to Verdun, via Reims. No issues, all went swimmingly.
Monday, Reims to Monza, through Switzerland. We wanted to take a break through Switzerland and pulled in to some services a few miles after border control (where we were waived through without stopping). I took a...
Naughty naughty NAUGHTY car.
Turbo failure, and of course, when it failed I was 5 laps in to a track day.
A £600 track day.
At Monza.
In Italy.
1000 miles from home.
Full write up when I finish seething about it.
I've opened pandora's box on this car now, one handbrake cable was seized solid so I fitted a new one. Now working well.
Next up the wiper linkage was flapping about, and turns out was broken. I stuck it back together with some of the glue from @Sparkie and WOW that stuff rocks! Glued the...
I fixed the washer jets
I fixed the horn, needed a new compressor
Tried to refit the wheel centres - fail - powdercoat thickness from the refurb is too much and I will need to sand them back on the edges - ballache!
Then I just thought - feck it lets go for geo alignment, and as the place I...
