Why not make your own seat frames?
I have homemade ones on mine and I have never had an issue. They are three peices of ~5mm thick steel in a square arranegement and the fourth bit is a part of the original seat runner. I have never had an issue with these on seating position being wonkey...
The inlet has two "gaskets" - a normal gasket when it meets the lower inlet and a rubber ring thing on the top, which I presume is for a breather.
Didn't know that a Ph2 has a rubber ring gasket seal thing for the throttle body.
Also get new throttle body and inlet gaskets too, might as well replace them when they come off.
IIRC from when I did mine the throttle body one fell to pieces and was a nightmare to get off the sealing face.
A tip for doing the work, get both front wheels of the ground, so then you are not fighting with the anti-roll bar
I only say this because I spent hours trying to get the driveshaft/lower shock bolts in with just one wheel in the air. Proper senior moment and when I was told about it I felt a...
Right, so it is that time again I pulled my finger out and start doing something with the car! This is now made a lot easier as I have got a new job starting next month which means I can move back in with my parents for a while to "save up for a house deposit".....aka waste it on the car and...
Now you say the side light bulbs you initially got are rubbish!! I have just purchased some after your initial reccomendations :persevere: I will fit them and when or if they blow I will swap for the better ones, just keep some spares in the glove box.
ooo that looks even better than the things I saw, and a better price and I can collect Nectar points!! Yeah its a Ph1 172.
Anyone able to confirm the Mk3 and Mk2 are the same filter?
Presume you have this tool?
Need to service the car this month and the current filter wrench in the tool box is probably older than me (step dad's tools) and its the leather whip style one and its sort of on its last legs.
Was pointed to a cup like one that is like a socket on Opie Oils' website ages ago but I cannot find...
Why not flock (just avoid Black Sheep flocking like the plauge)? Or is it OEM you are after?
I hated all the silver and blue parts in mine and removed all the blue trim, managed to spray (probably not the best) the middle vent black and got my dash, steering cowling flocked in black. As the...
You've got Xenon's or HIDs for dipped haven't you? Ph2 standard lights are different to the Ph1's aren't they? As yours look nice together as they give off the same colour and that.
I have currently got some LED sight light bulbs. Was given a packet of about 12 of them last year for my birthday. But I have gone through them all in that time, they probably weren't the best quality bulb!
What are people running in their side lights? Want something a bit brighter than the...
I thought it was do do with something to hold onto if a marshall needs to drag you out of the car?? Or offers a bit mroe protection if a window goes / /glass everywhere? I was told at a driver's breifing a while back but can't remeber fully why. Similar reason with windows being up (if you have...
I had the same issue a few years back. Lucky I was on the drive when it happened and managed to get the rad out to have a proper look.
It turned out the plastic bolt thing had failed. So I went up the local scrap yard (GSF, ECP didn't have anything and Renault was shut being a Saturday) and I...
The bumper is the first thing on the list! just didn't have the time to get it sorted before we left.
It was started on the Monday, MoT tested Wednesday and then we left the Thursday.
Oh and the "best" crash was when I was driving I had a section under yellows as the Ring Taxi was in the...
So got some pictures from the weekend:
Before setting off
The handwritten notes that got us there:
On the ferry
Making some tracking adjustment in Belgium on the side of the road. The only thing to go "wrong" on the whole trip. Car was faultless
First thing I saw at the side of the...
Watch some endurance racing today. Everything was proper smooth around the track and there was no "racing", probably because they didn't want to risk a crash!
Weirdest thing I saw was the Jeep Cherokee safety/recovery car towing a TT at speed on the racing line while other cars were racing...
Made it!! Piece of cake.
Well, apart from the sat nav being gash and having a bit of a wrong turn going past Brussels as I forgot to say turn off. Hand written notes to get to Germany and then CoPilot to the hotel.
Car was faultless on the way. Did a bit of adjustment to the toe in to stop it...
It's more of to get roughly to the right area. Step dad has been several times so knows once he is close. Plus not sure where our hotel is
Stop it!! Car will be fine!!! It's not like it's just had a major refit or anything that hasn't properly been tested. Got breakdown cover if needed.
Getting all the final stuff together. Tool bag sorted, GoPro sorted...
Sat Nav apparently does Europe but not Germany! However I can point to Achen and get directs to that! Apparently does Belgium but won't acknowledge the existence of Liege. So I have downloaded CoPilot and chosen Germany as my...
IT WORKS IT WORKS IT BLOODY WORKS!!!
So...but of a home made loom! Crank sensor off the new engine and the car were different and the engine one was knakard. That was stopping it spark. Then there was an issue with ignition which is controlled by two relays. Swapped around and still nothing...
Like this a lot. Wish I had the time, space, patience and ability to do this kind of restoration work to mine!
Also banner looks good in the garage
Now bidding....£550 starting bid no reserve.
Needs to go to fund the track car
Please share the love and mention it to whoever could be interested in it. Great car for a new driver or a second car run about...
I have no idea, it doesn't actually start 😂 the new ECU has upped the rev limit too so that should give it a bit more noise maybe.
Car currently sits a little higher than that first picture now, wanted it a little more practical than just slammed.
My windscreen has a crack in the lower left hand corner, totalling about 6" in length as it is curved. Done a few track days with it and no one has battered an eye lid to it.
The latest on the car....
Engine in. Seats and harnesses in. Brakes fitted. Suspension on, just needs tracking, Team Dynamics Imola wheels fitted. All looks smart.
However....it doesn't actually start. We leave Thursday evening. Last minute dot com!
Turns over but the fuel pump isn't coming to...
The 172 is back on the road!!! Woop woop!! Only a small bill of £485, but for the hassle of not doing it that is good, and this does include parts.
However, I am so close to admitting I have the Ph1 172 disease and scrapping the E34 idea to buy another 172 as the daily and keeping my current...
Car is sorted now
Apparently it took 8 hours to fix, I would like to know why it took so long seeing as most of the comments here don't mention to remove the sub frame
However they only charged me for 5 hours. Unless this is a marketing ploy so I say they are that good they didn't charge...
^^ This. Mine has done 170k and quite a few of those miles have not been easy.
I was only thinking of doing an engine build not for reliability but for power gains and to give it back its edge. If it wasn't a track car then when it goes pop I would be putting in a second hand engine, and while...
