Is it age-related or does it depend on how many miles they cover since having been refurbed? Do the conditions the car is driven in have any impact (salty wintry roads, for example)? What about the suspension configuration, might that also affect the longevity? So many variables...

The Sachs dampers can be refurbished for ~£500. I guess how scary that is will depend on your personal circumstances.

I have an RS2 inlet, de-cat, plus upgraded & amped speakers - I haven't heard any tyre noise in years! ;)

Did your insurance include legal cover? I'm not sure but does that not entitle you to speak to a professional who can offer you guidance & counsel you?
