    Castrol Edge Sport 0W-40

Castrol RS was best fully synthetic I have used but now using Silkolene Pro S which is even better and £33.99 delivered for 5 litres which is less than the £36 you are likely to pay for the New Castrol stuff in 4 litres.

    FK coil suspension, any got?

FK's are great, either highsport or konigsport depending if you want adjustable damping and want to pay the extra for it. They come with speay can of lube and spanner don't round off the fixing nuts unlike some brands (according to place thet fitted mine) I've had mine for over 2.5 years...

    Coilovers for the valver!!

FK are good and TUV approved which is important. As is a lifetime guarantee if fitted by Authorised FK dealer.

Got my fk coilovers fitted on valver but...

Was probably 1st to have these on my Valver nearly 3 years ago. You will be running excessive negative camber, lowest I had was 2.5 degrees negative camber and correction bolts will bring this to a more reasonable negative 1.5. Handling is great but you will ruin inside edgeof tyres...

    Gearbox Oil for williams

Just used the Millers to replace Redline I fitted a few years ago and the Redline stuff is better. Did my research years ago and think Matt Brown used it on his. Basically MX5 drivers swear by it as it cures a notchy 1st to 2nd gear change. From using the Redline and Millers, Redline IS...

    fitting piper cams

Depends on copmpetence levels, every1 is different. If you have the luxury to practice on say a spare engine I would say go for it. That's what I am doing as the only way you learn is to do it yourself. If you lack confidence, don't have the tools or space to do it and can't be without...

    fitting piper cams

For the cost of new cambelt and tensioners, get them, why risk new cams on an old belt. Cambelt change IRO 137 quid by most independent renault specialists. May be worth them doing your cams at the same time. May cost about the same again in labour for cams I guess if doing cambelt too.

    Michelin PE2's or Goodyear F1's?

So go for F1s if price of PE2's are too expensive in same size (as I found). Although getting PE2's from Costco may make them more affordable if you know any1 with a card.

    Michelin PE2's or Goodyear F1's?

Always had F1s due to price in 195/50/15. And always get longer than 12 months on a Valver. But then only gone through I think 10 tyres in nearly 5 years of ownership over 64k miles. Guess a lot can be down to driving style and car set up. If someone goes through tyres every 3 months like...

    Optimax - just normal unleaded?

Just filled up at Sainsburys and put my Forte additive in at same time. Worked out using Optimax instead of Sainsbury's SUL would cost me £30 more every 6k miles. Not that much extra really. Would be interesting to do a RR run with different fuels to see if any difference, same type (SUL of...

    best oil?

Best I have ever used has been Castrol RS. Not used teh New Castrol Edge stuff. Found Mobil 1 Motorsport not that good (15w50 for summer use) and have used Total Quartz 7000, Duckhams QXR and Halfords own Semi Synthetics. Just got 20l of Silkolene Pro S from Oilman. A steel at just over...

    Optimax - just normal unleaded?

And what's the price difference between a bottle of Forte and cost of running 6k miles on Optimax compared to SUL from a supermarket? Dread to think. Know which I would choose.

    Optimax - just normal unleaded?

Used to use Optimax but now its over 6p a litre more not worth it. I now use Super Unleaded from Sainsbury's and cannot tell the difference from Optimax apart from the much cheaper price. Doubt any of you could. So all this about cleaning additives, do you believe the hype? The amount you...

    Camber problem.....

Same thing happened when I fitted my FK coilovers, forced me to run 2.5 degrees negative camber. Corrected using camber adjustment bolts by supertracker which were cheapest and now run 1.5 degrees negatiove which is more acceptable. Lowering puts more strain on Driveshafts and makes you run...

    Most Amazing Alloy Wheel Cleaner

Mr Muscle Citrus degreaser is a good cleaner also but not looked into the ingredients and PH levels. Always worked for me, that or Muck Off/Dirt Attack.

Has the garage fobbed me off?

Wheel alignment should include steering wheel to be central. They use a vice like clamp againt teh seat useually to lock wheel straight ahead before doing the rest. Doesn't sound like they are saying the truth if they reckon it will sort itself out when everything has worn in. I have had...

need a quick answer if u can (bhp figure!!!)****************

Never go by book figure, how do you know your Valver is 137 bhp from the factory and over time as things wear and get crap inside you will be less. Some Renault tuners say best method of increasing bhp is checking and replacing all components like Rotor arm, dizzy, ht leads, spark plugs...

    oil filter ahhhhhhhhhh?

To take off the filter simply pierce it with a screwdriver and use that to unscrew. Fit new one through feeling where it should go and then use one of the tools you can but from Halfords to clamp and tighten it securely. Its not a nice job and I have to do mine in the next week as oil...

    Lightweight alloys??

If you have ver had a bike you would know that isn't true as a lighter wheel is easier to get up to speed which is felt most on an uphill. A car is no different just that its teh engine taking the strain rather than a rider.
  23. M

    Lightweight alloys??

Rotational weight saving is worth twice as much as static weight, so yes it will make a difference. Rolling radius is also a factor which is why most people don't use 17" wheels. Not worth going stupid light though and sacrificing durability as our roads aren't the best. Guess OZ SL's are...

    autosol?

Autosol removes most things, its very abrasive so be careful. Used to use on old bikes, steel wheels that rust and it brought them up a treat. Be more careful on alloy as the black colour you find on the rag you use is actually the metal you are cutting off.

    Piper Cams and Pulleys??

They should be good and ideal for slamming in when you get a cambelt change done to combine labour costs. If they didn't do anything then Ben wouldn't be doing his own cams and people like Hillpower, BB and Ktec wouldn't offer them either. Head work helps though and gains are better with...

***FK Clio Mark 1 Coilover Group Buy***

Got my FK's fitted at Performance Driven in Taunton, one of the 1st dealers nearly 3 years ago. They offer lifetime warranty as an authorised FK dealer/fitter. That swayed me and the fact they are TUV approved, unlike GAZ for example which many people have complained of springs being too hard...

***FK Clio Mark 1 Coilover Group Buy***

Don't forget you will mopst probably need camber adjustment bolts fo FK's on a Valver. I did as you run too much negative camber without the bolts.

is there a 'how to' guide on the steering rack on valvers

Its definately loosened up over the last 6 months. With coilovers in the last 3 years I guss it has taken more abuse so seeing as the car is 10 years old in January will look at getting it done along with the rest of the bits needing restoring/replacing.

Possible end of the Decat ???

Got Evo through post today and Hayward and Scott advert at back is pushing for a cat replacement pipe that is only 2bhp less than a decat but works like a cat. They state on their ad that from 2006 MOTs will be computerised so you cannot get past emmissions test. Know my garage just ended up...

is there a 'how to' guide on the steering rack on valvers

Though this play would be up/down or left/right play as in column coming from footwell to steering wheel rather than turning the wheel either side and having no change of direction till over 10 degree movement is made. Will get it on axle stands to check everything underneath as have to do my...
