Firstly take the dipstick out and check the colour of the engine oil. If it's been changed recently it may be clear(ish) but if not it's usually a darker colour. See if it matches the colour of the fluid you are finding.
Smell it too, you can normally get an idea of what it is by the smell.
You aren't just paying to get the fault codes read though, you are paying for that persons expertise. Fault code reading is ony one part of diagnosing the problem, as the faults that appear on the ECU aren't always guaranteed to be the actual issue. They may well need to do further diagnostics...
Here's a Polo that I have up for sale via eBay.

To time it up properly, you MUST release the pulleys on the camshafts. It can't be done any other way. Ignore them who say you shouldn't do it at home, you can - as long as you have the correct tools.
You need 3 tools, the crank pin, the cam horse shoe and the pulley locking tool (this is used...
I'd say it needs going to a garage where they can diagnose it, rather than blindly guessing at what it could be over the internet. Yes, it'll cost you a chunk of cash, but at least you'll get an answer. You'll probably spend loads of money blindly buying parts anyway!
Reorder the comlumns on sheet 2, putting network point in the first column. You can then use the lookup formula on sheet 1 in the mac address column. Something like the below.
=VLOOKUP(B2,Sheet2!A:B,2,FALSE)
Don't just chuck a litre in, it'll probably end up being over filled. Over full, is probably just as bad as under! To be fair, I would leave it. It looks about 1/4 above the min mark to me.
So, follow on from post #87 - The wierd boost/power delivery issue
A couple of weekends ago, after having a play with a Focus RS (the guy WASN'T happy :-)) all of a sudden - boom. Loss of power and warning message on screen 'Reduced engine performance'. limped it into a layby on dual carridgway...

Re: East Midlands - Rolling Road Day - Date TBC
What's my chances of highest torque figure on the day (i'm not expecting highest HP)? Are there any big power Clio's on the list so far?
I think £3-400 is common place for a remap. My remap on the Volvo was £419, however I did gain 70+bhp and 90lb-ft torque, so felt worth it. I think if I spent that kind of money for better drivability and 2bhp i'd be annoyed! (1*2 owers!) however on the DCI you should get good results
I use a cheap Silverline rotary from GeeJays (local shop, you've probably heard of it)
Yes, you have to be more careful with a rotary, but it gives good results.
