If you are only getting 34mpg out of a 1.4, then I think you need a new pair of lighter shoes before you concider a 182. I average 38-40mpg in my 172 so it is possible!

But as a "named driver" you arent putting on as many miles as the policy holder so it wouldnt be fair for you to take credit when you arent using it as a daily car like you mum. A good example is my gf, shes been driving 2 years, on her mothers policy, drives it once a month during term time...
