Both my mk2 megs are still on dmf no issues, you will be fine with that setup for 280hp. I think my r26 has same 26r clutch in as pedal is slightly heavier than original, its perfect for road driving.

Updates. Great weather today so got 225 out to rinse the rest of the old fuel off as still had quarter of a tank in. Big fish riding up front. This took ages with normal driving. Finally got it to reserve and filled up with fresh 99. Found receipts for old fuel in glovebox. 7/23 & 10/24...

Need to chop the oem clips off for silicone hoses. Mine are jubilee clipped onto the original fittings.

Set of snips or careful cut with a dremel. Id not disturb the fittings off the heater as the o rings are most likely shagged with age. If the fittings need moving or weep after a bit of movement, new set of 4x 20mm x 2.5mm o rings sorts them out.

If you want to use it before fitting new hoses, chop pipe and stick a bit of copper pipe in to join.

Its a gusher so should be pretty easy to find. If not fill with water and pressure it up

Thats normal/correct temp gauge position for these, every one ive driven lands in the same postion when fully up to temp. The cts rarely fails from experience, lower readings are due to weak thermostat. Longer crank when hot could be due to fuel system or tdc issues at a guess.

Rings are bedded in after 20 miles or so, oil consumption definitely wont get any better than it is, only worse.

Oil comsumption is far too high If its been rebuilt, especially if standard pistons. Needs a leakoff test doing to confirm, but id assume ring/bore issues.

Only the expensive ones work, and to get 95 octane up to 99 etc your going to need a fair bit. For instance vp octanium is around £25 and id imagine you will need to use the full us quart per tank to see the required increase.
