The play in the rubber bush is normal, they dont really nip up as such and need to be slightly loose so they can rotate on the bewring once the car is on the floor. Check balljoints, trackrod ends and inner tie rods for play as all knock like f**k with a little bit of wear.
From memory the threaded section adjusts the jaw height, was ages ago when i used them. The grip you can get is unreal though just by squeezing the handles together, better than most molegrips
Knipex will be bang on, good brand.
I borrowed a set of snap on ones recently to undo a rounded off brake union. Prob better than most sets of stillys, great bit of kit.
The blue bung is just blocking the carbon canister pipework which does not usually cause an issue, assuming its clipped on/not leaking.
Check the exhaust is not blowing
By the sounds of it, its only a quick hone, rings, bearings and ancillaries. No new oil pump and all the sealant on the rocker cover.
Id rather do the belts on a good running engine than sticking in something that might have just had a quick flash over.
Roses tins. I also have a drawer in the garage with an old kitchen cutlery divider fitted which is brimmed with allsorts of fasteners, it weighs a ton im expecting the drawer to break one day and make a right fu king mess.

Great updates. I wouldnt worry about the oil consumption too much, they all use a bit when the mileage is getting up there. Quick ring job will sort that if itstarts getting a bit smokey from cold.
As for oil filters, i use purflux 932 which is as good as oem, same manufacturer. Gsf sell them...
