Remanufactured alt turned up today. Went with this as probably as good as the shite aftermarket alternators that are kicking about. Fitted in half an hour.
Success
Very slight rumbling from the aux belt at idle speeds as reused the old 3k mile aux belt and tensioner is getting on a bit now as...
Bank hol updates
I had noticed an unusual noise developing from the engine bay a few days ago on the blue dci, sounded a little bit more noisy than usual diesel. Went out in it on monday and got a mile down the road and the stop/batt light were flickering on then on permanently.
Straight home...
Bank hol updates
Serviced the megane, fresh 5/40 synthetic oil and changed the gear oil
Give the engine bay a wipe down, still nice and clean.
Current mileage of 70k, low for 18 years old.
Took it for a good blast out around the local b roads, the chassis is awesome feels so planted. Still one...
Looks tidy, seen it up for sale and can tell its been well loved by the previous owner.
Regarding the creaking recaro, its a common issue on the cs sportster. If the bolts are all tight it will be wear and tear to the subframe.
Updates
Fitted some lock stops to the steering rack as had slight tyre to coilover rub on full lock. This appears to be a known issue on ast coilovers on megs from a little research. The stops are double the thickness of oem and knock onto the tie rod ends tight so quite a nice bit of kit.
Its...
Acf50 or Xcf corrosion block are both great products. Acf 50 needs more regular top ups compared to Xcf which is thicker. Both excellent for winter corrosion protection, combine it with some corrosion block grease and your sorted.
Ive seen the lanoguard, but not used it myself.
Us pro stuff is sound for occasional use. Ive just bought the stubby flexi head ratchet spanner set, and the quality is alright, as good as all the other cheaper ones, sealey etc.
Most of the time its not the brand of tool thats the issue, its how you actually use it.
Long time no update, but the other cars are still getting bits done. Meg is taxed again and road legal, and a few minor service items to do.
Made a start today, cv boot clip on passenger side, stock brembo pads up front, flushed the old brake and clutch fluid out for fresh. Test driven earlier...
I went a bit tighter on my 172, but on the meganes i just use stock torque settings and never had one move. Just make sure cam ends and pulleys are cleaned up with brake cleaner.
Had engine jacked up on the box, and subframe off when i done the pikey freshen up. Was losing the will to live taking the sump off. Felt like ringing the scrap man to drag it away:LOL:
Sump is alloy, so new gasket and good to go. It has a sequence to tighten the bolts too so follow that. Id...
I think a new clamshell for the rear of the trendlines used to be available for capital seating. Not cheap though.
Bolster wear should not cost too much to get repaired, £100 ish.
To be fair they sound like top money considering the damage. Id see if any meg r26 seats are available in better...
Lots of differences between 172/197 engine, the bolt pattern for gearbox is different, cams, pistons, vvt system, cylinder head to name a few. Get the correct engine.
Small update
Front tyres were starting to get right down, cant moan as they had done 25k at least. Stuck a set of Yokohama blueearth on as the michelin energy savers have gone up to around a ton a corner which is too much.
Fitted
Tracking must have went out a bit as drivers was run off on the...
Ive seen some that are still in good nick when changed due to age, and ive also seen some that are on the verge of failure with cracks all over. Russian roulette sadly, also got to factor in tensioner/idler condition.
