Exactly.
Which is why I facepalm everytime I see a decent Clio Shopping that's having money poured into it by a young driver. Besides the insurance costs, they'll never shift it when they do go buying a decent motor... providing it doesn't winf up shiny-side down within 3 months of course.
Also it depends what you're after of course, as our man here points out.
Since a lot of MX-5's are "fair weather" weekend toys, a lot of non-entheusiasts may not have gone near his example.
THere was a MK 2.5 1.8 with a supercharger kit and various other mods that wasn't selling for 6.5k...
If you like it, then get it.
good examples of these motors will always sell.
The main thing to look out for thugh are hoods in poor condition, a fabric one will last better than vinyl and are les llikely to crack, once cracks form in vinyl hoods, it's a matter of how long you can put up...

But someone in their 30's? YOu're not in line for a mid life crisis yet sir!
That spoiler alone must weigh 1/2 a tonne stationary, and probably no more than that once moving.
Sorry, but no, you're...
chassis braces (inlcuding the butterfly brace) & A-pillar braces will cure it all, no hassles.
The Mk2.5 sports had the chassis bracing as standard, but the mounting points are present on ALL MK1 & Mk2 MX-5's and eunoses
To be fair chap, just get used to it as is.
Get it all serviced and aligned, see how you get along.
You can do a lot to the handling without the need to made it run lower or rock solid springs & dampers. Chassis and a-pillar braces are a good call, they take out a lot of body flex.A better...
