Well as an all rounder id say the CTR is a better car, build quality for a start they dont rattle or squeak and will more than likley run off the clock and back again before itll break.
Performance is antother whilst the pre-facelift versions (before 2004) the CTR strikes 60 in 6.6 whilst...

Hey guys, i have had a few niggly problems with the 172 since i bought it, i would probaly put it down to neglect from the previous owner.
Anyway so far things ive had to get fixed are>
1. Bearings in the Rear (not quite sure what ones)
2. Front nearside bearing

Take everything out the boot that doesnt need to be there, do your tyre pressures every week. Dont drive at speed with with the window down this just creates drag. At about 60mph it loses like 5% of the fuel consumption apparently!

The 172 should piss on it, i owned a saxo vts and while its a very eager car, its not nearly as fast as my RS 172!
They do 0-60 in 7.7 although parkers have the GTi down as 8.3 (same engine and car im sure)...
