    Porsche 997 Carrera S - Basalt Black

On the Panzer family, I swear by it for mid range correction and, as Jim has done, haze removal. For larger defects, 3.02 IP is my next stop, on the same pad or a higher cut pad. Also to note, they are not oily like the Megs 80/83 twins that I started out with on the French mobile.

    Porsche 997 Carrera S - Basalt Black

Kev, re your email, I find the 3M vs 203s very easy to use. Similarly to 3.02 IP with the Menz Orange pads. I haven't found a decent working polish that doesn't dust, but these are certainly not on the SRP dust levels - far from it!

    Porsche 997 Carrera S - Basalt Black

Lovely Jim, glad you spotted the backing plate issue! Had a friend MMS me last night with a picture of a disaster waiting to happen, very similar to your photo! re the C4, it really is a wonderful product. I am (secretly) hoping my photo wins the competition as I am very up for buying/testing...

Help with buying myself a machine polisher

Once you've bought it, you can use it with all your future cars. And your family's cars. And your friends cars etc. You will "grow" into new polishes, pads, waxes, machines etc. Welcome to the slippery slope!

Help with buying myself a machine polisher

Wash, clay, wash, dry, polish, wax/seal. The reason for leaving the car wet when you clay is so that you keep a bit of lubrication between the paint and the clay bar. You will need to use clay lube anyway (comes with the kits mentioned above) but this just adds to it to make it as safe as poss.

Help with buying myself a machine polisher

Shush you ;) Oh and I'm going to send you a "you were right" PM in a sec, diseasel related ;) Claying is the use of, as it sounds, a piece of clay. Clay has very sharp microscopic "blades" that cut across the surface of the paint. Anything that sticks up, out of place of the flat paint surface...

Help with buying myself a machine polisher

No issue buddy, all here to help. Claying is done to remove microscopic contaminants off the paint surface. Think about a razor on your paint surface "cutting" all the lumps of sap, tar and fallout. It helps to make the surface "glass smooth". No to the Fairy - this is chatter about whether...

Help with buying myself a machine polisher

Try not to limit yourself like this buddy. Simple fact is, not all suppliers will have the products you are after. I still have to shop at three different places. I would decide on what you want, find all you need from one store, the rest from the next. It's the only way to do it.

Help with buying myself a machine polisher

I wouldn't get the tech wax. What do you want, long lasting, looks or both? The Megs polishes are OK, but the Menzerna polishes are better and easier to use (IMO).

Gtechniq C4 - permanent trim solution inside

Dan, from the supplier; "doesn't seem to affect it too bad if a relatively weak concentration. stronger concentrations will compromise longevity though." "If it's a caustic tfr used almost neat then I'd say it'd compromise the finish. Surlely if he picks something that's non caustic and uses...

    New car paint protection

The black one on DW Kev? Agreed on EGP. Remember I put on a really thick layer when I first bought it. The Clio had more swirls after trying to remove it than it did before correction!

Gtechniq C4 - permanent trim solution inside

First off, I'm glad this has attracted some attention for Rob's product as it really is superb. Dan, that I don't know, but I can ask if you'd like? No problem Jim, really worth it for cars that you have upkeep contracts with, as this will cut your finishing time in half. As Gally says...
