    If its not the dephaser......?

I run the 172 for about 10k a year and it burns about a litre in that time absolute max, I don't usually need to top up as the oil gets changed then anyway

    Pressed Plates On A PH2

I've had pressed plates on the turbo for 5 years now, been pulled once or twice but never even mentioned the plates, usually so confused with the semi slicks, stripped interior, cage, buckets, harnesses, battery in boot, plastic windows, the list goes on!lol! and as yet touch every bit of wood I...

    Russ says oops

head gaskets clearly gone, can see where its popped and burnt through in the pics, no way that occurred when head was removed, that's gone pop! that's what the loud tapping was as well, text book blow by into the other cylinder, sounds like a rattle.

    Russ says oops

when I fitted the new engine to mine I paid £300 for the car and £600 for a new engine with manifolds, gearbox and starter. coupled with shifting the good bits from the knackered engine (cams, dephaser, etc etc) the whole project came out owning me £550 with 12 months MOT and 6 months tax on it...

Thinking of selling the williams, what are 197's like to live with

its a total scam when they integrate the joint into the arm, the arms themselves cost nothing, they simply refurb them and usually the inboard bushes are fine/cheap to replace then charge you £200+ for the pleasure!

Does No One Wave / Flash Back?

I get plenty of waves and flashes around Derbyshire, dare I say it it tends to be the mark 2 phase 2 and newer that don't respond or look confused, most mark 1 and mark 2 phase quick owners are a friendly wavy bunch. all in my experience of course, its probably bias as well as you see a lot more...

Whats wrong with your car right now??

exhaust manifold to head blowing, or could be turbo to downpipe, not sure which needs brake overhaul including new front pads, new fluid and rear brakes completely stripping and refurbishing, also probably needs a new rear brake bias valve needs more boost too, not strictly a problem, but...

    5th gear gone

True but usually if it's just fifth 90% of the bits stay in end cap n what small bits do make it into main case will come out with the oil. for the record this has always been my experience,if your in any doubt get a pro in.I go through that many boxes it's worth the risk as swapping box only...

    5th gear gone

if u fancy a crack urself then drain box oil and whip 5th gear cap off, see if you can see the damaged cog its easy enough to remove it, 3 bolts for the end cap and one that holds gear on
