you will have to trim the ends off but do this after fitting it first. start from the middle then head outwards.

i think some people put a socket in the rubber where the mounting bar thing sits

i would imagine that rubbing it all down with some sand paper or wet n dry to remove the rust etc. the use some high temp paint to protect it.
