I have the Renault gasket on mine mate - there's a reason why they fitted one. The ONLY way that oil can get in that upstand part is if the engine is breathing. They all breath a small amount anyway, mainly from the vacuum effect tbh, but a small amount of oil in there is the norm.
Yeah you'll...
Yeah that's the one I'm meaning mate. Also, there should be a gasket on the breather plate (there is on 182's and 197's), so if this isn't there it will allow the plate to sit lower. This in turn will reduce the performance of that seal.
Yeah with the upstand blanked off then no vapours will...
Are you sure it's not coming from the dephaser solenoid seal mate? It's another area to check.
In answer to your question though, yes you could block it off with weld, but my main concern would be indentifying 100% that the leak is definitely coming from there. There shouldn't be any oil in...
Fittings arrived today for the gearbox oil cooler lines. Soon got those made and fitted, so now it's all systems go.
Tomorrows job is to prime the system and top the gear oil up.
Jobs left to do before the 'Ring is:
Raise the ride height 2 turns on the coilovers.
Roll the rear arches and...
Dodo hasn't been seen since September 2014 mate, so I strongly doubt you will get a answer to your question from him.
If you have a search you'll find lots of information on here regarding the 421's.
Yes but it depends on what gearbox you've got. If it's a jc5 089 box, they have a seal within the guide tube for the release bearing. If it's a early jc5 129 it's the same as above, but if it's a later 129 or a jc5 130, then the seal is combined with a bearing and you'll need to strip the box to...
Thanks for taking the time read the thread mate, and thanks for the kind words. I think it helps that I like to do things differently as well, but I also just enjoy f**king about with stuff! Lol! After the gearbox oil cooler and the pms shifter is installed, I'll be done. There's nothing else...
Run the v6 airbox directly off your throttle body with the inlet facing forwards. Cut the skin out from your bonnet and you'll have a direct air feed as the air can flow under the bonnet. That's how mine used to be when I was running the 172 engine.
Cheers mate! Yeah all the hubs I do are plated the same colour and I've never been a fan personally.
I've heard good things about the shifter, so it'll get its time to shine at the 'Ring, or it'll be moved on.
It's just vht engine enamel mate. After speaking with Nick at pms, the rattle is mainly caused by the shifter linkage at the box end. Use plenty of grease, and the rattle is reduced. Now I'm not driving it to Germany, I'm not worried about the rattle! Trailer ftw!!
Much better. No more gold zinc plating! I decided it would look far better if it was painted the same colour as the block and gearbox casing.
More to come.
Yeah it was f**king loud in the dyno cell! Lol!
I'm afraid I dropped a bollock mate and booked a 'ring trip on the same weekend as CSF. I thought CSF was the following weekend. 😞
Oh and I've got the pms shifter to fit before I go to Germany!! That'll be getting a coat of black paint though first, as I cannot stand gold zinc plating!! :tongueclosed:
Time for another little update! The new laminova is all fitted and piped up, along with the 197 thermostat. I've been accumulating a few other bits and pieces for a spot of gearbox insurance as well. I'm pretty sure that this will be a jc5 first on Cs as well?!?!What you can see here is my mocal...
Replied in the pm mate, but no the injectors aren't coded. Buying the complete car to carry out a swap over is a very easy way to do it as you'll have everything you're likely to need at your disposal.
Unplug the loom, undo the exhaust manifold, pull the shafts out the box, undo engine mounts, drop the coolant and heave!! Lol! Bit of a wiggle and out it'll come as one. You can leave the subframe behind doing it from out the top.
172 and 182 engines are essentially the same mate yes, but the...
