Daily tyre recommendations with wet track use

If it were me I'd look at two tyres: Yokohama AD08R Nankang NS-2R As for the wet weather A ratings and other EU ratings they are rubbish. The ratings are independently given by the manufacturer themselves, meaning you cannot compare the tyres ; it is not an apples for apples comparison as...

The RE002/3s Adrenalines have taken over the RE050 in the smaller sizes.

    Carbone Lorraine Rc5+ rattle

When you say shims are you referring to the slider plates?: Alot of people bin them as they can cause the pads to seize into the carriers, but IME, given the right car they are fine and get rid of clunks and rattles as well as giving a freer surface for the pad to glide on (after all, they...

    Front brake squeal (182)

I personally wouldn't call them an OE replacement even though EBC do. I've had mixed braking on them on cars over the years ; they are on my current car (a 1990 Mazda MX-5) and with new brake lines throughout a mate of mine still reckons the pedal feels very 'wooden'. In a Mondeo previously I...

    Pilot Sport 3 Alternatives?

Ignore the EU ratings ; they are useless. Basically, the ratings are performed by the manufacturer, thus I could have a mediocre control tyre to pitch other tyres against. It's pretty misleading really... Await the Brexit comments LOL. I had these on my Clio 172 in 15" format and if I am...

Emissions light on but car seems fine??

The on board diagnostic will not always give the right info or any. I'd get a decent OBD reader for piece of mind :).

    Fuel rail guard

For the couple of minutes it takes to remove I'd leave it on, from a safety perspective. You don't want to leave the inlet manifold on then, that gets in the way every time you work on the ignition system. Most cars have 'something in the way' when you need to work on them. Don't work on an...

Evo Shootshout Video : Many Generations of Clio.

Here is an interesting video I saw on Youtube of many generations of Clio battling it out:

Clio doesn't want to crank over. Wiring?

I only say it as I have had it happen on three occasions to me from 3 different garages! In most cases you can get away by soldering the break in the terminal. IME alot of pattern starters are barely within spec of a genuine item, but with a warranty of only a year on them... I'd repair the...

    Cup shocks VS the world

Years ago I would have agreed with you. If I am honest, if I was not fussy about the height and looks of the car I probably would go with them. I've had a couple of good out of the box setups on cars (Ford Racing kit on the Ka (Sachs dampers with Eibach springs) and Konis on springs with the...

Clio doesn't want to crank over. Wiring?

Has the car ever had a clutch change? If so I'd be looking at the starter motor ; it may have been dropped on the floor and damaged the solenoid terminal.

    Cup shocks VS the world

Which other setups have you tried? I'm debating between the following when the time comes: -Stock suspension from Renault -Pro-Lines and Cup dampers -B14s. I am being swayed to the B14s due to their monotube technology (it is part of the reason for why they are great over speed bumps) and the...

    Turini 38.5 offset

Yup they are Cup Turinis. Just to double check, Clios came with two variants of Turinis? The 172 Cup wheels being 38.5 and the Trophys being 40 something?

    More Spots in Warwick

Indeed, I have spotted a few Clios in the last month. Upon changing jobs I now walk past these two Clios everyday. One is a Cup and the other is a DCi with 172 wheels and interior: Friday and Saturday I came across two black 182s. One had vents where the foglight holes were and an...

    Keeping my exhaust shiny

Does C5 work on the tips? If so I may try Collinite on mine :). IME polishing them a few times a year does help :).

172 phase 2 aux belt squeal on full lock

Silly question but are the ribs all on the right grooves on all of the pulleys? It is easily done and I have done it before. I'll check the deflection of my belt later on on the bottom run.

Turbine Colour Choices for an Iceberg car. What do you reckon?

I did. As good as the refurbishment was on them, I hope you like them now! To be fair they were a talking point and people did spot me more in town. However it may have also made me more aware of being noticed if I was being cheeky in town! A few colleagues probably agreed! Anyway, the...

Stalk Differences - Connects 2 and AutoLeads

Right, I am considering getting a steering wheel stalk adaptor to allow my HU to work with the stalk on the car. I am ATM using an Alpine HU. The Alpine lead is out of the question as it is very pricey ; I guess it did retail for £100 new but even with the display working on the dash I can't...

    Better gear linkage set up

Indeed! Even at Castle Combe I was shocked at how well I kept up with people in the corners! There were Sierra Cosworths, Merc AMGs and a couple of lowered MX-5s there and I was hassling them in the corners! Eventually I ended up treating it like a country drive. The wet track day at...

Help Please, ABS ring change guide??

Did you get this done? I need to do mine and am debating on what method to use. On other cars I have simply taken off the bottom balljoint and done it that way.

    Big brakes 1.2 ?

Are you running the bias adjuster with that as well. IME the handbrake is always w**k on those Bendix calipers. It's not like I've not had experience with those calipers either (Pug 106 GTi, 306 GTi and now my Clio). On my 306 TD and Pug 205 1.6 GTi the handbrake was far far superior, and...

Which rear wheel bearings from euros

I know Fred@BTM preferred to fit genuine, saying that it was pot luck whether they lasted or not. From the trouble I had on a Mk3 Mondeo from a non genuine bearing (it was missing an ABS ring, a pretty big problem when they are internal on those) I have gone genuine after that. If you're...

    West mids dead.

Another Midlandser here . Pub meets do work but the format has to be right, be it a meal or something like that. If it works for Pistonheads et al... That and the West Midlands Area probably has people all over the place in it. I am in Warwick and TBH a few Oxford and Leicester meets...

Just kerbed my cup alloys, new wheels?

This will cause some debate and I reckon I know what people will prefer! I am on Turbines and TBH I doubt I'll refit the Turinis. As nice as they look they are way too easy to kerb with the 195s on, and I hate parralel parking watching the kerb like a hawk when 1*2s have the turning circle of...

Did I get ripped off by my garage?

A few people have said that on many things ECP do like branding up cheap parts, and that although they do quality parts, that you should buy with care. As for the price it sounds reasonable IMHO. On my RST I was quoted £140 by an indy to change a bearing with me supplying the part. On the...

    Braided Hoses & Fluid Choice

If you want cheap Super DOT 4 I'd also consider Ford's Super DOT 4 ; some Fords like the Mk3 Mondeo were meant to run it as standard.

    Big brakes 1.2 ?

Let me guess ; 4x4 Calipers with 283mm 2WD discs? With this setup on my 230BHP RST and S2 RST rear drums it stops well. Very well actually, probably the best braked Escort I have ever driven even on track. A specialist reckoned the setup was good for up to 350BHP ; He also reckoned that...

    Rear discs

I cannot anwer your question but AFAIK all MkII disc equipped Clios run a sealed bearing in the discs. Do you have a shot of the bearing? On some cars the bearings can fall apart due to the race getting stuck on the stub axle?

    MK1 16V Wheels

I couldn't see a link for the photo. What size are your front brakes? The Turbines on my 172 were a bolt on fitment.
