Help Please, ABS ring change guide??



I have tried a fairly thorough search but couldn't find a guide on how to replace a front ABS ring. I know the part is cheap and cant really afford the labour for the change but the pedal feeling is not great.
Do I need a torque wrench for this?? If so then the question is probably null as that'll cost the same if not more as having them do it.

If not for me then for any others reference. Is this a complex job, I have read a few threads about it but couldn't find many images of the job part way through which normally help a lot.

you will need a torque wrench for the wheels and the hub nut,

basically the job is simple you need to remove the 32 mm hub nut which will be very tight best thing to do is get wheel off and pop the centre cap out if you have 1 then refit the wheel and lower to the floor and use a long bar and stand on it to undo, then jack up and support the car and remove the wheel again,

then you want to remove the 2 lower ball joint bolts 18 or 19mm cant remember exactly that will allow the hub to swing out the way so you can get to the abs ring, if the ring is damaged it should come off quite easily otherwise will require some hammering, depending on side might be easier to remove shaft from the car just bearing in mind that N/S will require the gearbox to be drained

once the ring is off you want to clean up the shaft with a wire brush or sand paper and then hammer the new ring into place making sure its flush and on square.

then its just the opposite to refit the lower arm and hub nut.
 
Cheers @-Dan- for the help, I might have to leave it for now then as I don't want to leave the abs ring as is though the cost of the part and the torque wrench add up to the same as a garage doing it so tempted.

The feeling of a broken/damaged ABS ring in my experience is that the ABS cuts in too soon, often as you brake coming up to a junction where the road is bumpy. You will feel the ABS cutting in on the brake pedal so is that the fault you have?

I too am interested.

Some will say you do not need a torque wrench but personally I'd want one on the Hub nut.

From what I remember the procedure is as follows from what I have read.

Undo driveshaft but with the wheel on the ground
Jack the car up
Remove the road wheel
Remove two strut bolts from the damper to the stub axle
Possibly remove the TRE joint.
Take off ABS ring
Clean up driveshaft
Fit new ring on with it heated up.

Reversal of the above.

However, I would have though that the method outline by @-Dan- would work as well. Whether the above method works in this post (I read up about it months ago) is beyond me.

I was quoted by a known Renault specialist £60+VAT to get the ring changed. I really need to change it, but my RST has no interior ATM and I really need to push on.

Hi guys, sorry to jump into the thread. I have just been trying to replace my ABS rings today and can seem to get the driveshaft out of the hub. I have taken most of the stuff off apart from the TRE. Any help/suggestions would be very helpful.

I need to do mine and am debating on what method to use. On other cars I have simply taken off the bottom balljoint and done it that way.

Yeah I managed to get it done, just make sure both sides of the car are up and you should be able to leave the TRE and the lower ball joint connected. Requires a bit of force but should come out eventually. Remember to loosen off the hub bolt before jacking up. I struggled more with getting the rings on and off, make sure you have a good wire brush etc to clean up the surface where the ring sits. I ended up cracking one of them to get it to come off. Getting them on was hard, I would suggest the heating method.
