Did I get ripped off by my garage?

  Renault Clio 04 1.4L
I recently got my passanger side wheel bearing replaced and 2 new front brake pads, same day fixed for £220 all said and done. The work is fine and my car drives great, just wondering if I got ripped off.

£50-60 for Wheel bearing , pads £40 2 hours tops for the work. Its not too expensive.

I do not know the make of the parts and I did not get an itemised reciept, just one figure. The wheel bearing was front passenger side. I get the impression I have over paid.

This work was done in Birmingham, if my assumption is correct that city prices are higher then maybe I paid the right amount.

I'd say it's part dependant. Cheap Euro car parts pads are £18, 2 hours labour is £100 at a back street garage so that leaves a gold plated front wheel bearing at £120...

I wouldn't say you've been roped off though. £500 is ripped off.

I paid £158 at a local trusted garage for two wheel bearings to be supplied and fitted (I say I paid...Fish brothers that I originally bought 2x wheel bearings from to have fitted paid as they supplied incorrect ones) So in all reality, you've paid a fair price and haven't been ripped off.

  dan's cast offs.

i get the cheap brembo pads from euro for our driving school cars too, genuine brembo in brembo box. were more than £16 right enough! £30 I think I paid last time I got a set!

when you say you had 2 front pads done I assume you mean 2 pads on each side lol!

nope, genuine. had a couple of sets off them the other day.
Well the ones my mate bought from Euro the other day lasted 2 laps of Hullavington before they crumbled to dust.

My 'genuine' ones (bought from a trader on here) lasted all day and are still ok.

Probably just my branch. They're right pikeys.

A few people have said that on many things ECP do like branding up cheap parts, and that although they do quality parts, that you should buy with care.

As for the price it sounds reasonable IMHO. On my RST I was quoted £140 by an indy to change a bearing with me supplying the part.

On the Clio I reckon a specialst would have wanted £150 for the job including the parts. Christ, the pads on my Clio came to close to £30.

Ripped off would have been £500, not your price. It seems fair, if a little cheap...
