Yeah, he's a good chap. Wish he could do the job!
I've had 519 recommended to me before. Never answers his phone, though. Left a few voicemails for him, but he hasn't called back...
Can anyone recommend somewhere trustworthy in the Cambridgeshire area to get a Clio 172 cambelt changed? My usual mechanic has just had to turn down the job as he doesn't have the special tool that is apparently required.
No main dealers, thanks. I know it's not a cheap job, but I don't want to...
Hello everyone
evo magazine is looking for a standard 172 Cup or 182 Cup for a feature we are shooting tomorrow (Tuesday 16th July).
The test will be based in the Bedford area, on the road only (i.e. there will be no track work).
If you'd be interested in bringing your car along and seeing it...
Does anyone know at what point phase 1 172s stopped having the aluminium bonnet?
And dare I ask what the definitive answer to the shift light question is?

look in service book or car manual, or even tyre wall.
The tyre wall wont be much use unless you have previously written the pressures required by a 182 on there.
Which isnt actually such a bad idea...
Well waddayaknow? Took it to the garage at the end of my street and it passed first time. Absolutely borderline, admittedly, but a pass nevertheless, with CO emissions more than halved.
My suspicion, which I tried not to distract you with yesterday, may well have been correct. I think the MOT...
I didnt want to prompt anyone, but I noticed that low temp too. Not sure if thats accurate or not, though.
mpg seems very reasonable: 25+ for my short, slow commute, 40+ for long, steady journeys.
Hi all,
Your help on this one would be greatly appreciated.
My mk1 172 failed its MOT on emissions today - high CO and high lambda at idle, apparently, with the suspicion being that its constantly using choke.
The dealer claims to be running out of options. Its had a new oxygen sensor...
Quote: Cheap they are, ive tried many insurance companies and no luck in getting it close.
Theyre cheap for a reason. Its just taken them eight months to pay out after a guy rear ended my car. There was no dispute from the third party or his insurer, but there was massive incompetence from...
Ive run a tape cleaner on it, not that there was any point, though, because the problem presumably lies with the spool mechanisms. I guess theyre a bit stiff so are assuming that theyve reached the end of the tape when the havent. Hence flip, flip, flip, flip...
The standard Renault cassette head unit in my Mk1 172 is rather troublesome when its cold inside the car. If I attempt to play a cassette it just keeps flipping direction back and forth, back and forth. Its fine on warmer days, or when the temperature inside the car has warmed up a bit, though...

Why is it that some drivers have to give you full beam from behind when you have overtaken them????
I think http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=98&i=7563this pretty much covers it. :D

The things that you said are heating elements are actually the springs mate, Just a strange shape.
A very strange shape! Im surprised that the pretensioner/airbag wiring is so exposed too - ideally positioned for being snagged by...
Hmm. Just changing the discs in my CD changer and I noticed that there is loads of wiring and what appear to be heater elements beneath the front seats. I didnt even realise the car had heated seats. Does anyone know if they are they standard fit on the 172 or are they an option?

50 litre tank aparently and Ive never seen anyone get more than 43/44 in.
Im not convinced that its a 50 litre tank, even though thats what it says in the handbook. Doing some maths with the figures from the computer on my Mk1 172, it...

I noticed the other day that Q8 garages (if you have them round your way) also do a 98.

Four months - and counting - for my ongoing claim with Elephant. There are no complications (the third party that caused the accident admits liability) its just that...
OK guys, help me out here, please!
I bought a 2001/X Mk1 172 a couple of weeks ago. Full Renault service history, 30K miles, no HPI, etc. Seller seems decent, the cars very tidy, and Im very happy. Or at least I was, until 24 hours after getting it home.
I took it out for its first proper...
