A few months ago, I bought a second hand Xenon drivers headlight and unfortunately it arrived damaged. The bulb had been left in and this must have taken a knock somewhere on route and it snapped the white plastic adjustment mechanism (horizontal). Unhelpfully, both parcelforce and royal mail...
The fronts look to be in a lot better condition and I had a full geo set up done less than a year ago when the camber bolts were fitted so I'm reluctant to replace them with standard dampers and have this done again. I'm thinking I'll see how I get on with the new rears and higher pressures and...
Just to keep the thread updated, I've changed the rear dampers and it turns out that they were both pattern parts and both knackered... I replaced them with OEM cup shocks and hoping this improves things, I'll see if it helps on track along with a higher starting pressure and see how I get on...
Hmm, maybe springs won't help me out then... Do you run a rear anti roll bar?
I've been looking at the rear dampers and think it might be worth replacing them with cup dampers...
If I bought an ignis I'd then need to buy coilovers, a turbo conversion and a dif before pulling everything off it, not quite the simple fix I was hoping for but it would be fun until a traffic cone wrote it off...
Thanks to @harvsurrey for the suggestions:
New cup shocks - good shout as one...
Not running a rear anti roll bar, do you think that would help more than stiffer springs?
I'd like a decent set of coilovers but can't justify spending £1000 on them. That's £1000 I plan to put towards replacing it with a Megane 250 cup in the next couple of years...
That's good to hear, I could only get -1.5 using camber bolts and standard suspension, hopefully a set of springs will let me get a bit more!
This is what I did but they seem to be rolling over too much, what do they drop down to cold and how do you warm them up slowly? I'm thinking I need to...
I had less pressure than that on my last set and wore the middle out first because they were overinflated, I need to try and find the happy middle ground.
No I haven't kerbed the wheels or hit any unusually big potholes harder than expected.
I have nothing without enthusiasm! Haha I'll aim...
Thanks, I fitted eibach camber bolts last year and then got the whole car alignment done, could it have moved that much already or is it just still not enough negative camber?
Are new top mounts worth considering along with Cooksport springs and cup dampers?
Thanks, I'm already running eibach camber bolts at max so I'll up the pressures a bit and look at springs. What's the next step for more negative camber? Top mounts?
Thanks guys.
@STEVE.M What are standard pressures for R888R's? I definitely don't have blankets... I ran the older set of R888's a bit higher and the middle wore down first so did a bit of research people suggested 30 hot but maybe the new tyre type needs to be a bit higher...
Thanks @imprezaworks
One of the shocks was leaking for an MOT 4 years ago so presumably replaced or ran out of fluid but other than that, could be original!
I should have added that I'm already using camber bolts and had it set up on a proper laser alignment with as much negative camber as...
I'm running R888R's on a set of 15's on my 182 with standard cup suspension. During a track day on Friday, I noticed that I seem to be wearing the sidewall slightly. I run the tyres at 30psi hot so I don't think it's because the pressure is too low?
I'm wondering whether it's because the...
If it's just for on the road and you're not going on track then yes, I would probably go with a suction mount. When I had this, I ran a 3m power cable from the cigarette lighter out behind the cup holders, behind the carpet in the passenger footwell, up the door rubber tucked in behind the trim...
Haha that'd be an interesting conversation in the prison yard telling them you were serving 2 years for drilling a hole in a picture the queens face... There's probably people in there doing less time for killing someone!
Used the mount on the way into work this morning and it's very solid...
I agree with you about the leads, especially on track, the guide I used is http://www.cliosport.net/content/guides/fubar/ph2_dashboard.pdf
@STEVE.M Fairies?
I gave the mount a bit of an update over the weekend... The longest part was waiting for the paint to dry but I think I spent about an hour doing it if you don't include the wait time.
Firsty, I gave it a coat of Matt Black so it blends in with the dash a bit better as I want to leave it in...
Haha thanks, the lens is cracked at the moment so a new phone will improve the footage dramatically. I'm planning to take the dash out (I'm sure there was a guide somewhere) and put a metal plate underneath the dash and then bolt the bit of wood (painted) to that through the dash. That should...
I realised that Cadwell Park didn't allow suction mounts so had the same dilemma at 10pm the night before the track day, it may not be elegant but I came up with this... I use my phone and Harry's Lap Timer to record on track and I was happy with the positioning of it.
The block of wood is...
I'm about to buy some Willwood 4 pot calipers from someone on here but he's not sure what discs/pads they take. He thinks they might be Megane discs, is anyone else able to shed any light on the discs/pads that I'll need come replacement time?
Thanks,
James
I need to change the rear bearings on my 182 so looking at changing the discs/pads at the same time. I'm keen to get discs with the bearings and ABS rings already on. I tried searching and it seems that the rear discs are the same across the 172/182 but some of the listings I've found for discs...
I may have spoken too soon... As I mentioned earlier, I changed injector number 1 and it was running fine and pulling strongly throughout the rev range on the way to the MOT this morning. Possibly because it was left idling for a quite a long time (it's never liked that) but when they came to...
Yes, cylinder 1 is at the gearbox end on the Clio. It was still running partly on the cylinder so unplugging each cylinder made a difference with each of them but it did turn out to be injector related, thanks!
I first swapped plug 2 with plug 4 - cleared codes and misfire still on cylinder 2
I...
Evening All,
I'm after a bit of advice, I've done lots of searching but seem to be running out of ideas... My 182 failed it's MOT on a few things, the main one being emissions. It's always had a very lumpy idle and if left idling for a long time, the EML would come on but went off after turning...
Hi everyone,
I've just bought a Clio 182 with cup packs and got some wheels with r888's to go on it for track use.
The centre bore of the newly acquired wheels is 67.1 rather than the 60.1 that I understand the Clio to be so I'm looking at spigots. I'd rather avoid the plastic ones as I know...
