Hi!
While replacing the driveshaft (passenger side) on my 172 cup one of the 3 bolts that secure the boot thing in place stripped the thread. It now seems to be dripping oil lightly - just spotting a mark the size of a coin under the car after a night.
I already tried a tap but didn’t help...
This car is great and really an inspiration! As a car electronics expert myself I must say that your wiring job looks outstanding too. Seems there’s nothing you can’t do!
I’m terrible at keeping this thread up to date. Progress is slow, but steady though.
Got loads of things that come between me and having time or money to work on the car, new job, new cars, stuff around the house, you name it!
How the car is standing at this very moment;
One happy family...
I’m just the same, got great cars but sold them all again. Like said, life is too short to drive all cars you’d like but I’ll try as much as possible!
On the other hand, if you only just did one trackday, get a full season in before selling! Clio’s shine on track!
Well that worked I guess! Bit of pain still tbh.
Got the car jacked up high as possible to get the springs inbetween.
Wheels back on, lowered it again, jack under the rear beam and up again.
Got a heavy mate sit on the rear with some car batteries and some other stuff. This worked!
So it is...
Springs came off this car so should work.
I tried that indeed, but with the car as lightweight as it is, the spring won’t compress when the beam is jacked up. The whole car just lifts.
I have, can’t get the car higher with my current jack so will get another one today and jack it up as high as possible. It is on axle stands both sides now, on the sills. But once the springs are on, how do I fit the shocks? If I don’t figure it out I’ll post up some pics later today.
I am jacking it up from the sill, yes. But once I do get the springs to fit, which they don’t do yet, I still can’t manage to mount the shocks back in place.. not really sure how to fix this, will have a go at it today. Either they fit at the end or I’ll probably just throw the whole car in the...
Hi all,
I’m having some trouble mounting the rear springs on my 172 Cup.
The springs won’t fit between the rear beam and the car, even with both shocks loose and the car jacked up.
Problem occured when I disconnected the rear shock and couldn’t mount it back because the holes didn’t lined...
Christ, couldn’t figure out why it became dark all of the sudden!?
@White16valver, thanks, hope it will be!
Yeah all of us dutchies cycle or have one I guess! Got a few, but with 5 cars for 2 persons they absolutely think we’re crazy..!
Update!
Got round doing some more work on the Cup! With the weather getting better and some sunshine in the evenings there's more time and motivation to get some work done ofcourse. Been busy getting a new job too so that will take up some time in the upcoming months.
First up, got the wiring...
Hi,
Could anyone identify what loom is in my car? I got 2 172 Cup’s but one of them has a different wiring connector going to the back.
Note; these are the plugs coming from the back.
I got everything wired in but as the colors and places are completely different on these plugs I can’t see...
Update!
So I got round doing some more work in this car today. It wasn't as hot as the last couple of days so that made things a bit easier!
First I took the boot of and started fitting the CMComposites one. Needs some more work as you need to figure out where to drill / make holes for...
This thread has been (and is actually) a great inspiration for me, and for many others I’m sure! Updates always have some nice stuff and detailed pictures etc.
Looking forward to the graphics!
Update!
Well, again this has been a while. I read on here every single day, daydreaming about my own car, but in the meantime a ton of things seem to change except just that! So time to get things into priority and get working on it.
The Turbo'd Clio 172 Cup is still standing in the garage...
172 cup only has the steering wheel and passenger airbag, also the seat belts are wired in the system ofcourse. Isn’t too hard to remove completely with the ECU, just get a sport steering wheel and a dash section without the airbag. And then just follow the wires and remove the lot?. Don’t...
Ah, ontdek steeds meer medelanders hier!
Car will be built following the Time Attack regulations and stuff, but following the complete budget layout the car isn't finished anytime soon. Car will be getting full cage, lsd, suspension renewal, etc.. I like building just as much as driving tough...
Update!
Been a while since the last update! Car is on jacks at the moment. Had messed up the wiring so doing that again!
Also made a nice plan on how to approach this project since I don't really know where to start sometimes. So should be some updates every few weeks!
Since my birthday...
Update in case anyone ever gets the same problem and wondered how it ended - The key I ordered fitted, did have to give it a gentle tap with the good old hammer to get the key in.
Picture for a good reference of the bolts, weird ass pattern and high recommanded as anti theft locks if anyone...
I'll go full hammer style with the nut if I think there is the slightest chance I can hammer it on. But will get the welder out if it takes me more than 10 minutes haha!
Car had just refurbished turini's that now already have some paint damage, not really a big deal since I wanted a different...
I think the key will fit, that's why I ordered it. Also only got the welder in after I ordered it, didn't knew my father in law had one.
Will wait for the key wich should come in next week, welder is the other option. Thanks for the replies!
I'm in the Netherlands, no tyre services that visit at location for this stuff around here..
I didn't know the spinning collar could be knocked off. Is that actually managable? At this point no socket I have could fit the bolt, tried alot of stuff already.
I have a welder and some experience...
I haven't welded in years, is it anything I can do myself with a Mig welder and just weld on a nut or something? Not sure if it will stick fairly good.
I ordered a key, if that doesn't fit I will try to weld them up. Thanks!
Well, now you mention it, I forgot to say the car is not road legal. So can't get it out actually and need to find some way to get it done at home.. I'll take a look at the halfords stuff!
There will be a stud & nut conversion fitted when these are out, car is purely for track.
