I've just gone through this whole palaver.
And what I found after replacing everything. e.g new Konis + pure-motorsport top mounts plus brace. new gen bottom arms, track rod ends and steering tie rods. Its the rack that's knackered. If you put the car in the air no creak. but with the car on...
Someone must know. Can it be done without having to drop the subframe...?
I'm changing the rack mounts anyway. And seeing as the rack is getting noisy thought I might change the lot. As Renault a doing the offer on the whole lot.
Hi There
My Rack needs changing. Grinding and the pump is crying to.
My question is.
1. Is it a not to bad driveway job.
2. Or a subframe off pain in the arse job.
If so I'll take it to Birchdown.
Cheers

Hi there
Does anyone know the length of the Tie Rods ( SMI Rack )...? Car 172 2002.
e.g NS =
OS =
are they the same length.
I've found 3 lengths listed. 287, 301, 296
Which do I need...?
Cheers
Si
Do these come with the bottom ball joint to. Or are they sold separatley. Also you don't happen to have the bolt part numbers to please.
Wishbone to subframe that is.
Cheers
Cheers for that, I thought being 15 inch they should clear the calipers ok. I'm just after a spare set 15 x 6 wheels. To put some thinner winter tyres on. e.g 175/185's
Hi there
Just a quick one for all you wheel experts out there. After a set of these for winter but just would like someone to confirm that the ET is ok. States 6Jx15-CH4-43...
3/8's seems an odd size for a modern euro car, Thought it would be the metric.
I've already dropped the alternator forward as mention because thats whats bust and coming off.
When I get the thing off I'll put the verniers on to it.
Cheers of info.
Hi there
What size square bar is required to fit the tensioner please..?
My new tensioner has not yet arrived, so i can not measure the one in situ.
Cheers
Si
Well the alternator is on its way out. Still charging just but is shorting out somewhere within itself. And it stinks....! So spare ordered also new Aux belt and tensioner kit.
Cars already in bits, they should be here on Monday. I'll post some pics when the parts arrive.
Does not look to...
Right guys after pulling the whole car apart its running again, Removed and checked all engine wiring and all fuse conection within the engine bay. then removed the in car fuse box and removed UCH checked all wiring then pulled thye UCH apart. Board was covered in dust and muck, Cleaned board...
Right, The more I look into this the more I think its a wiring fault or UCH issue.
Can I unplug the UCH to check connections and wiring without causing any other issues...?
Si
Right chaps
The car has started miss behaving, Car drove fine parked it up. Then went out in the morning to move it and nothing. E.g. All usual lights on dash but fuel pump did not prime. Turned key to crank engine and nothing.
Opened bonnet tried again nothing but a high pitch whine from...
If you enlarge the diagram in the link.

You can see the locating washer has a small tab, which needs to fit into the bolt hole on the strut. So a small file has to be used...
Just taken the car down for an MOT. She passed with flying colours.
But she's running a bit rich at idle.
Car has KN element Ktec Cat back system. Acoustic valve removed.
Just been serviced new plugs, all new filters, Throttle body off and cleaned.
So my thoughts could be cat full of...
I think the Ktec ones work well. Sure a bit of vibration at idle, but better than the standard mounts moving all over the place.
And at their current price good value to. I've had them fitted for about a 18months now, no complants so far...
Good thing they come with a 5 year warranty from point of purchase.
Because due to the rear spring design (Pigtail) they are prone to fatigue and snap..
You are better off with a rear platform spring set-up IMO
Si
I've been running this set-up for about 4 yrs. You do have to file a notch in the struct to take the camber bolts.
Road use they are good. Although I run them flat out damping front 3/4 rear.
I have snapped 2 rear springs though. Eibach prolines. So rear is now on standard spring, which...
Goodyear F1's not good on a clio sport IMO. tramline hunt for camber and are to soft walled. Lasted 3 months only. If you run a decent suspension set-up.
Michelins are a much better tyre.
Anyone know the best place to source one from.
My local Renault Garage want £46 for one.
Also some B~$stard has just knicked my headlight washer jets are their £13 each.:(
