Can you change the seals in the nearside steering rack with the rack in the car.
Seeing "youtubes" of the job on the rack itself it seems it might be possible with the wheel off jacked up?
So it seems that the red ATF I had was too thin and falling out of the steering rack. So I put in some 5W40 semi synthetic oil and noise gone leaks reduced steering works fine.
Need a new rack as leak is still there but manageable but should I have used a red ATF -is my issue viscosity?
Was convinced my dephaser was on its way out - diesel sounds at idle from engine bay and quite as I run quicker. Recently noise has got a lot worse and on starting knocks inconsistently not like a bearing whine or grind?
Went around the engine long screwdriver to ear and cam area is quite and...
Sorry folks not only is this in the wrong section but my COVID fuzzed brain (from Nov20) took 3 hrs to realise car was jacked up on offside and leaning on nearside wheel which although looked free as car was high the road camber locked the antiroll bar and the offside wishbone wouldn't move - 3...
Yes very close but the wishbone caught on the nut holding the ball joint to hub - about 5mm away - thats why I took it off to undo the suspension arm. Its like forcing me to clamp up the springs to get the fixing higher which I dont see the folks on Youtube or guides here having to do.
Perplexed
Undid the lower ball joint from the wishbone changed the driveshaft - could'nt get the ball joint back - put a bar on the wishbone but the nut stopped the lower ball joint going back onto the bolts.
Checked driveshaft its the same length so undid the two bolts on suspension arm and then fitted...
PAS saga never ends - my ebay bargain pumps as much oil out the shaft that goes to the power steering only problem is I cant recycle it from the road. Brought one from REN parts with 3 months on it and heh presto works fine no leaks so far but a quick run highlighted that the tensioner is now...
OK no laughing - but sit down for this.
Im a fellow of the IMECHE, work at the world most famous aerospace company and was a fitter for 10 years. Topping up a brake reservoir with steering fluid does not translate to power steering - topping up the steering reservoir and seeing fluid come...
Pressure switch out I get no flow and only a gurgle (pumps trying hard) and the odd squirt. Pressurized the reservoir but it seems to vent so not getting much over pressure.
No drop in fluid level so it seems to be a fluid feed issue. Can I prime from the pressure switch?
Whats the...
Fitted a new PAS (from ebay for a Clio same size & same connectors etc one stamping the same the other different) removed noisy one that was providing hydraulic power and now nothing. Turned lock to lock static and with engine running - fluid level not dropping? No weird noises - new belt...
Removed the short upper and the long lower bolt from a 2001 172 and the alternator pivots but does not come out. It looks like there is a sleeve which the long bolt goes through that is holding the alternator and lower bracket together.
All guides indicate it should be free but it rocks...
Good news is wheels on + valance on I've removed the belt and tensioner and the PAS is now loose in an ally cradle bit on right of second pic - cant see how to get it out and looks like it will only come out nearside if the cradle removed (how many bolts) or by taking off the alternator and I...
Hi Folks lots of advice on the site re a 2001 172 PAS pump swap out but having removed the engine cover the bar that goes from block to alternator I was wondering if I really needed to take off the valance, lamp alternator et al.
Is it possible to remove the PAS once the pulley and tensioner...
yes - a gas canister somehow failed and I think the ignition source was the gas torch trigger that got pushed in when I loaded up with tools and the when I walked away clicked a spark and boom. Door window open so roof is crispy but intact - I got the fire out in about 3 mins but it was a do I...
All fixed - many thanks - started at from with the bulb, holder, connector, fuse. All new wiring and two earth leads at the back so that was OK!
Honestly
o_O
Not yet no - I can manage about an hour of work so just thought Id get some bits as relays are cheap😂 - no difference when I load the battery just runs fast. I dont think the fire in the back has helped mind... When you say light cluster where do you mean?
Just failed an MOT on a couple of majors but also a minor which I've lived with for a year. Just thought I'd fit a new relay and just checked the forum for the location when the word control board came up as my stomach dropped...
So I now know that the relay is part of the UCH board but if I...
Just for fun I packed my tools and blow lamp in the car went in to say bye to my loves Mum, came outside - thought odd smell and found the car ablaze! Ha ha - you cant make this stuff up. Can only think the cylinder was damaged or leaked and the torch got trapped and then released a spark and...
My 172 also runs on three but kinda clears on revving although engine warming light flashes and its not happy. Spark plugs rusty and some holes very wet and No2 cylinder spark plug black. Leads look good and are cleaned. Cleaned plugs moved No 2 to No 4 ran for 5 miles OK to start and now...
thinking a good after-market fix like this is the way to go, any experience.
Very confused as Europarts CB joint for an F4R730 is a 27 spline external, 35 at CV and 65mm diameter and the later 23 spline external, 30 at CV and 58mm diameter?
Just lost my fuel pump tonight. Have 12 volts to pump and fuel gauge but even the hammer trick was only good for 20 mins. AA tow home confirms pump as u/s.
Europarts do a new unit for £155 but can I break out the fuel pump and replace that on its own. There are some units on Ebay at £30 but...
thanks - it was an injector electronic bit of kit that the AA guy collected to ensure that the ECU was talking to the injector. This confirmed that the No 4 injector was not flowing fuel confirmed by lumpy running and four dry plugs
Thought a 2013 problem was back but the current weather got me to call the AA for help. Plugged in the diagnostics and a No 4 injector fail, air conditioner interrupt, and Cat damage warnings came up.
Plugs leads checked out, plus coil pack and plugs all dry and no water in the holes which was...
