dont always believe what the electronics tell you, using the dipstick correctly is by far the best way. my sister has a clio and it said oil level ok, i checked the dipstick and it was dry :-S
Don't forget that oil levels are slightly different when hot or cold and electrical gremlins are common.
if you get it right you can pick up rear beams for £100 on ebay with disks calipers pads and dampers. then its worth it. sport rear springs £20.
brown bear:- imo rear disks may not contribute much to the total braking efficiency on a sport, but you would deffinately know if you took em off and...
ultraleggra are extremely light, look quite spindley, cost a lot, but not sure how they fair up on a track taking a pounding! anybody use ultraleggra on the track with sticky rubber?
an identicle thread to this was up here 2 or 3 days ago, read those comments too. it actually is not that hard at all.- now that i know how to do it. cost of second hand rear beam&disks callipers only and new handbrake cables.
braking improvement is slightly noticeable, but handling...
i have done this exact conversion and have it running perfectly. i am still running abs.
the beam is a straight swap, you could infact use the origional beam on your none Sport but you need rear stub shafts from a sport i think. the sport beams are stiffer with a built in 'torsion bar'
You...
not the easiest photos to give an opinion from, but that porting looks very poor, as if a first timer has just 'had a go.' ask if the head was ported without been taken off the block. if so worry.
be direst in asking the guy what the history of the engine is. has he had it apart and reused...
if you have positive camber the wishbone mounts could well have moved towards the centre of the car. try getting some measurements off a solid reference point to compare both sides, see if u can find where it has moved. wont be much though.
The subframes are pretty chunky things, from the picture looks like nothing too serious, double check everything, have a good look at the steering arms, they would be the weakest point, and most likely causing the misalignment.
When reattaching subframes, they dont just bolt on square...
Hi,
I sent a block away to be dishwasher cleaned and honed, the piston cooler jets had to be bent out of the way so the honing tool could fit the entire length of the bore, renault suply new jets for around £10 each, but do you recon they could be bent back without breaking, and reliably run...
yup, my 8v also does this. - its annoying, but has always been part of the car, only does it when i have been crawling in 1st or 2nd and then apply 5% throttle. Since most people apear to have this, i wouldnt think its anyhting to worry about at all.
interesting thread, hope this info experience helps. regarding a 1.2 8v 52plate
It is my plan to do what you are doing eventually. i have however so far done the rear. from the standard 1.2 set up to complete 172 cup setup. This includes dampers, springs, disks, calipers, rear beam (cup one is...
also to add for general interest really, each ABS ring from the rear weighs 50grams. remove the two which are not needed for the cup and saved .1 of a kilo. :) depends if you care that much!
my cup came with them on the front driveshafts which are not needed also, save .2kg total!
The rear disks will be a straight swap. If going onto a cup there will be no abs sensor wired into the car so it does not matter if there is an abs ring or not. If i remember correctly when i got my car from dealers new came to change the disks some miles later and it had rings even though not...
So the diameter of the sport ABS rings is the same front to back, but not the length of the teeth? am i getting this correct?
The length of the teeth off the rear is 7.50mm does anybody know if this is the same for the front??
hi all.
does anybody know if 44 tooth sport abs rings from the rear disks will fit on driveshafts? are they the same inside diameter?
for sport and none sport driveshafts?
any help welcome
Cheers
Tom
i know the exact problem, i have had it too, be it on a 1.2 8v, when modifying certain things. it feels like the abs trying to work, but infact it does not at all. it does reduce the braking efficiency of the vehicle at lower speeds though
as far as i understand (which may not be correct) it...
Missing Link:- for that you will need an added part of the loom which i dont think the sports ahve.
Also to maintain your quicker sport steering the rack would have to be replaced. the rack casings are entirely different for either PAS.
Look at running without pas alltogether, not...
