Morning all.
Haven't shown my face on here for a long time, completely left the Renault scene behind in favour of jap metal but here I find myself again considering another ClioSport!?
Considering selling the Evo because, although it's an insanely fast car and a very special place to be, the...
Holy crap this game has taken over my life!
I've always had an interest in WW2 era machinery and particularly the armour, so this game is right up my street.
Was recommended to download it by a family member last weekend and I've been up til 2am every night this week playing, it's so...
I've recently done an oil change and used Fuchs supersyn 5w-40, fully sythetic oil but their cheapest line.
Plans have changed and I've now decided I want to do a few trackdays over winter, car is standard power and won't be revved over 7k.
Is it a safe idea to replace oil with something like...
Just after a quick bit of advice.
I have never been into big sound systems and don't usually go further than a head unit when playing around with them so I am as far from an expert as can be.
When I got the mrs scooby a few weeks back it had some great big rediculous speaker setup in the boot...
Looking at a new car to buy, red in colour but swirl marked quite badly and really takes a lot away from an otherwise mint car.
Got a couple of quotes last night for a paint correction ( megane 250 size car ) and they came back at circa £750! Is this the usual cost of such a treatment?
I could...
This is really starting to piss me off. I've followed procedure 6 times now and the timing is still out.
Fit cambelt, tensioner adjusted on marks and pulleys spun 3 times then check tensioner. Horse shoe still fits nicely.
Lock inlet with renault tool and torque it up, same for exhaust. Then...
Took key fob apart after it stopped working thinking it was a dead battery but to my surprise the actual button has fallen off the circuit board making it useless. I'm going to try solder it tomorrow but the contacts are so small I doubt it'll work.
Need the car for work and locking it manually...
I say sound but not sure if I have more than one problem here, basically car sounds rough as fook at the moment.

That's the car fully warmed up. Don't think it's the dephaser as with the bonnet open there's no definitive noise coming from the top end...
Yes yes another thread about DIY cambelt replacement, but before you stop reading please give me a few minutes to clarify something.
Now I'm a mechanic by trade and have done many cambelts in my time so the basic principle doesn't escape me. However I've always given the clios and meganes to a...
Does anyone else who has this fitted ( or similar design ) notice any funny noises when driving slowly?
Ive been chasing an exhaust blow for months, but after changing all gaskets and thoroughly inspecting the system I can't find anything out of place or leaking.
Noticed when I had the...
Hi all, I don't usually delve into engine management so this may be a stupid question, feel free to correct me in any way you see fit. Hopefully some of the more clued up members may be of assistance.
Basically I'm going for a remote fastchip remap on my meg 265 but the generic map is for...
I've had a quiet but very annoying exhaust blow on the 172 now for about a year and can't seem to source it's origin. With the window open it's definitely located nearer the engine, I've changed the mesh ring with a new genuine fitting kit and other end of the decat has a new gasket too. Lambda...
Are we registered to attend yet? I want to order my tickets to take advantage of the early bird prices but can't seem to find any info on here regarding this years show.
I want an alloy radiator for my 172 Ph1. I see on eBay there are two fitments, one for air con and one for non air con which appears simpler in design and a bit cheaper.
Obviously my car had air con from the factory but I removed everything with a delete kit including pipework and A/C rad. Does...
My good old daily 172 is 14 years old this year and a few months off 100k mileage. It's starting to feel tired a little bit in the way it drives and sounds a little rough under the bonnet too, bad times.
So to celebrate its birthday I want to give the car a little refresh on a small budget...
For some reason my lambda sensor keeps unscrewing itself? I'll properly tighten it up by literally hanging off the spanner underneath and it tightens up lovely, about two months later I hear a tapping from under the floor and surprise it's loosened right off and about to fall out again.
I've...
So basically I'm stumped here, asked an auto electrician and he too hasn't a clue. Car in question is a 2000 ph1 172.
Regarding the 12v socket, there's power to it and the fuse is not blown. Phone chargers and sat navs etc. all work perfectly fine. The problems begin when I plug a tyre pump...
Hi all last Saturday evening a did a 300 mile trip around and through London in the pissing rain. The next morning I started up the car and immediately noticed an unfamiliar noise from behind the bulkhead. It's a low deep hum, much like a supercharger, which picks up and down with the revs up...
Recieved my new ICV today which is OEM spec and supplied with two bolts. When I removed the unit from the manifold it appears to be riveted into the plastic casing instead. Can't work out how to get this off or reattach new ICV with supplied bolts! Anyone shed some light on this please?
End of next month me and the misses are heading out to Germany for a long weekend on our own, this being the first time to the Nurburgring ring for us.
Due to the long distance and dangers involved I've decided to leave the 265 at home and take my 172 daily. Should save me a bundle in fuel...
Well, after 5 joyful years of ownership the 197 finally parted my ownership Saturday gone. Its gone to a top fella whos replacing his 911 GT3 with a cheaper trackday alternative, to who i hope it gives many more years of enjoyment.
Been a roller coaster during my time in the 197 but i hold only...
One problem after another with my 172 lately, by far the most unreliable and temperamental car I've ever had the displeasure of owning, and this is the standard one!
so after my recent alternator failure which drained the battery I had it off the car and on bench charge all week. Refitted today...
Just a quick rant cos im pissed and need to vent.
172 broke down saturday with alternator failure costing me a hefty recovery home from Cadwell Park ( £440 ). Ordered a new Lucas unit from EuroCarParts for £200. Finally turned up Wednesday evening and today matched it up with old unit...
I know there are many threads on this but every situation is different :p
After the 197 let me down last week I ended up taking my daily 172 to Cadwell park and thought with standard road setup items it would be a waste of time, as it turns out even in standard form the mk2s are massively...
Now my cars been lowered but certainly not a great deal more than some of the clios i see on here, but on track yesterday i was getting heavy knocks on the tight bends. After a quick look underneath it seems my driveshafts are hitting the chassis arm just above where they sit, and consequently...
Ah bad times! Got a track day tomorrow morning so got the 197 out last night for a clean and once over, it's been sitting in the garage for approx. a month and a half unattended.
During the drive to the jetwash I noticed the brakes were very poor, almost zero bite and on a damp road emergency...
Gotta change the PS pump on the 172 Monday, I have gallons of ATF at work but would have to buy specific power steering fluid. Always used ATF in steering systems in the past so will this be okay for the clio as well?
Or does it require a certain type?
Got a set of RS stamped inlets in the garage and I read they are supposed to be an improvement, but I also read they don't fit ph1 172s. Without offering them up together why are they incompatible exactly?
And to confirm I intend to fit them to a phase one model.
As simple as turning the stop screw on the throttle body or does it need ecu mapping?
it idles just over 600rpm currently and it's lumpy as a tractor with a misfire and occassionally has a little struggle pulling away slowly, think it need 100rpm more or so. Thanks
