I have both a 172 Cup which I have owned from new and an S1 Elise which I have owned for 2 years with sports exhaust but otherwise standard.
In the right mood and on the right road the Elise is a far superior/more fun driving experience and makes the Cup seem dull. On a really twisty section...
Not read thread in detail but dont be such a nanny and stop worrying about it.
Its like letting kids go out cycling without helmets on. 15 years ago you wouldnt have given it a second thought now people get plain silly about it.
I've owned my cup 4 years and had other high performance cars...
Apologies for asking. I am sure this is a common one but couldnt find it in FAQs.
My 172 Cup is not 28k miles old. To date it has been fault free.:D
However very recently I have noticed a click or a creak when manoevring at slow speeds when I turn the wheels on full lock.
Please can...
Greetings,
I've sold my missus car which we previously used for karting the bikes around on. Now need to get a rack for the Cup. Given this weekend's forecast wish I had got this sorted earlier!
I did a search on hear and people were recommending the Thule kit. Prob is the foot pack for the...
whatever you buy try to find cheapest around and then get John Lewis to price match it. Reason being that John Lewis offer a price match and give you a 5 year warranty as standard which would cost you £150 anywhere else.
Thanks for the feedback.
btw £180 is more than my old P1 cost for a minor 7.5k service.
Anyway theyve pointed out Ive got a cut in my o/s/rear tyre sidewall where it meets the lip of alloy. Query do I need to change it? Im concerned that it might go next time Im hooning it (which wont be...
Mines been fine 11k now without mishap. Theres plenty out there that are reliable you just hear about all the bad ones.
Just to add Im really impressed with the car as a package. Much better VFM than my previous scoobs
GTOs are pretty slow - they may have 280ps but it weighs 1700kgs thats a power to weight ratio of less than a 172.
Hence why it was always really slated by anyone that ever tested it in the mags - overweight and numb posemobile
Civics up for about 12k private and 14k at dealers
Racing Pumas about 10k
WRXs/STis 3k upward depending on whether you want an 11yr old shed or something better
E36s are quite quick in straight line but not best round corners.
New shape e46 are now starting to seriously come down in price as theres loads about - they do shift.
Just thinking about swapping the Cup for a mark 2 Elise next Summer.
Otherwise Ill use the cash to swap the P1 - ideas on that one range from a hairdressing Boxster to 996 to new EVO 8 to VX 220 turbo or Elise Mark 2 with a 160 conversion.
Alternatively, might just sell the P1 and stick with...
Owned both a 200sx and a Clio Cup.
200sx is very underrated and quick. I reckon it probably edges the Clio at higher speeds and is a better GT. Excellent motorway car and pretty luxurious. ONly real downside is poor image and looks.
Clio is more point and squirt and better steering with less...

Got a Cup and on my 3rd Scoob and have to say IMHO Cup is a much better everyday car. Much cheaper to run much nippier in traffic cos no lag and got the hot hatch chuckability. Its also less of a target and as quick as a scoob in most situations. :D

I met an Evo owner recently who (honest truth) carried round a specially refridgerated canister of iced water in the boot to replenish his water spray:confused:
Sounds like from the last reply it was a waste of time - unless he really used it to make slush puppies when he got thirsty in...
I think you guys are selling yourselves short. On a rolling start there are quite a few cars that would keep up with or beat a standard EVO. Just read MLR forum (EVO owners get toasted by TVRs and E46 M3 owners in straight lines as well :D).
An EVO would drive away from a 172 but not by as...

Steve I said the omission of ABS is only dangerous for the muppet.
It was the biggest negative issue for me when buying the Cup but saying that the brakes are pretty good on it anyway. People say its easy to lock the fronts on the Cup but theyre alot better than the (non-abs) you get on an Elise.
