Hi all, I have a Mk1 172 and the drivers electric window mechanism broke on sat. I've had a look and it seems to be the white plastic part that fits onto the window runner that the cable is attached to. Anyone know where I can find seperate parts as the dealer wants silly money for the motor...

gtis are very good fun and fast, that one will keep your 182 honest. as for it being ragged silly youll find it hard to find one that hasnt. i have a 97 with 94k on the clock and its going stronger than ever.

my 106gti with a couple of breathing mods will keep pulling well over 90. never come across a williams yet though to see how they compare but i think it would be close so long as i could keep on cam. drop below 4.5k and it would be all over!

go for the 106, get a group n peugeot sport zorst, sealed IK and it will fly. add on some cams and re-map and you will get to around 150bhp. loose some weight to get below 900kg and you will have a pocket rocket! i got a 97gti for £2800 and it is v good condition and i much prefer it to my old...

get a de-cat on it and you will feel the difference. know what you mean about having to swap it over though but ive got it down to about 20mins. saying that im swapping my dummy cat for a pug sport sports cat to get some mid range back.

the rumour goes that some cars had 130. however pretty much all of them standard are well over the 120 that pug claim.

do you have a de-cat on it? if so it will be running quicker combined with the IK.

gtis get good gains from breathing mods. i have a viper and pug sport full system on mine and it still pulls hard at 90.

why not get a 106gti? same performance as the vts (some might say faster;)). same handling. same reliability, running cost. easy to tune (mine with a viper and a pug sport decat seems as quick as my old 172!) less of them around. and the big 1 up on the vts, leather interior.

my wife has just a got an astra club (98), great car:sleep:. anyway she wants her old sound system in it but it has a display showing temp etc on the dash. i know in my old 172 when i swapped the head unit out i had to get a new conector to make the steering wheel remote and display work...

i went from a mk1 172 to a 106 gti and have no regrets. it is so much more fun to drive and now it has a few little breathing mods seems near enough as fast. might even get striped soon.:D cheack the wires going into the map sensor, they tend to wear and then the engine hesitates as the wires...

i had this problem on my mk1, it banged like mad in first to start with. after several trips to reno they found nothing despite me telling them i thought it was the engine mount under the battery. eventually it would do it in 2nd and 3rd and i could not go over 3k! it went back to renualt...

have you tried liverpool and victoria for insurance? as for 0-60 i have no idea but it has to be faster than 8.6 as they are real easy to launch.

they are not that bad. i had a vtr and got hit head on by a volvo estate (not my fault) which put me into the trees and then rolled the car. it was a complete right off but all i had was whip-lash and a few cuts and bruises, it did me proud. saying that the volvo just had a dented wing! but...

i sold my 172 and got an old gti. it is great fun and with a new zorst and viper it feels as fast as my old clio once you get it wound up. as for the driving it is a great laugh and you can really feel what the car is doing, it is truely like a kart. on the flip side the inside is small, mine...
