Bit of confirmation required. Lost drive, and presumed it was a driveshaft. Pulled the NS one as there was a noise from that side. On inspection the driveshaft looks ok, but there’s a loose plate rattling around. Looking at some other threads it looks to me like a Renfort type plate. But like...

Thanks for that, just ordered one from ECP (the ECP part ref is 617745225). However that option doesn’t come up either with my reg number or when you manually select a 2002 172, so there’s definitely a glitch in their database.

It’s ‘just’ that the diameter of the stud is too big. As it’s a fairly early phase 2 is there a weird crossover in parts?

It’s done! Proper ball ache to get the bush in, from as ease of installation, the two piece Powerflex items must be far easier.

Trying to replace one of the rear hard lines (chassis to calliper), and for the life of me I can’t get the new line back into the old Flexi. Just doesn’t want to bite. The old bush and steel ring is out. The problem with this one (rather than the Powerflex one) is the large bush is one piece, so you have a lip on each side, so it doesn’t just hand push in from each side. I’ll try and put a photo up to explain.

I wish I’d asked here before I bought the bloody thing! Had a go yesterday with various ‘pulling methods’ (no not that sort) but no joy. I think I need to file more of a chamfer on the aluminium housing to start with.

Any experience of these?? The large bush is single part (a think Powerflex are two part) so I’m not sure how easily it’ll be to push onto the mount. Any tips???!

Not with the ABS ring. However the one I received from J&T had the gearbox retaining plate thing on the wrong way round (which I should have spotted) so first time I fitted it, it was all over the place.

Drained the oil and found no needle bearings in the oil. Took the shaft out. I could feel the missing third circular lobe jammed just inside the gearbox casing, between the case and the bolt in plate. Managed to get that out, although I can feel another piece. So the car was delivered home and the garage that took a quick look had put the assorted shaft part in the footwell. So I’m missing one set of needle bearings and the cylinder bit. I may drain and see what I can fish out to start with.

So I’m now having the car shipped home so I can sort it during lockdown. Any idea if the 172 gear box has a magnet inside to catch any bits? Or is the gearbox likely to be shot. Being glass half full, I was hoping to fish the bits out, whack a new shaft in and hope for the best! Thoughts??
