No sometimes a weak battery can cause the starter motor to spin slower than it is meant to. If you owned an RX8 like me you would know all about it the standard RX8 batteries are about as good as a chocolate fireguard in winter :)

I am getting a little rumbling coming from what I think is the topmount on the nearside but hadnt linked the two together. The only reason I say it is coming from the rear is becuse I had a passenger in the rear of the car at the weekend who said it sounded like the noise was coming from behind...

Thanks for the reply, I may have been a little rash with my second comment because actually there isnt an awful lot of movement in the mount, have a feeling it may have been my phone in my pocket that knocked against the car :o. Would you still think this is mount related though?

Ok its entirely possible I have just stumbled across the problem whilst looking for something else, basically dont trust the stealer! I have just grabed the top engine mount on the offside and shaken it and there is a silly amount of play in the mount. B@stards!

I have had this issue since day one of having my 197, it doesnt happen all the time but is more prominent changing gears from 1st to 2nd, its basically a crack/slap noise that sounds quite metalic but it happens when the clutch is depressed and I think it attributes to when the car rocks...

Been averaging 31mpg in a 197 around town with a couple of NSL roads on the way to work, indicated 28.5 though but working it out from the pump the on board mpg seems to be wrong.

Did you solve this? I have the same fault yet the garage say they haven't been able to find anything on my 197 despite saying they can hear it too!

Depends what you want it for, I've got a nice rebuilt rx8 I would sell you but I wouldn't use it as a daily drive because of fuel economy. It's all situational.

Hmm ok thanks is there any way of checking that? Like checking for sag in an engine mount? I say this because I'm off down to the dealer tomorrow for them to take a look and I would like to try to point them in the right direction before they start stripping my car down :)

Just started to notice on depressing the clutch I get a slight knock noise from the gearbox, it's slightly louder in the lower gears anyone have any ideas what this may be? The car is under dealer warranty (from where I bought it) so hopefully I can get this fixed before the warranty runs out...

Thats not actually true, as long as there is an 11mm white border around the lettering and the lettering is of a standard size (works better on smaller private plates) then it is perfectly legal to have a cut down plate as long as it meets the other regulations ie having where it was printed on it.

Just noticed its drive by wire, guess I'll clean out the TB and see if it helps. Cheers for the response.

Hi all I haven't long had my little 197 and something is bugging me, if you plant your foot briefly and then let go the cars revs don't drop for 2-3 seconds which I find quiet odd. Is this normal or have I got a sticky TB or knackered throttle cable? Thanks in advance.
