£140 for a key !!!!

I recently slightly cracked/bent the front part near rentangular cut out part in

172 clio key, it has alarm and immobiliser, got a qoute form renault london west for £140,

this is very steep considering the key is still intact, is there any other place

anyone can recommend around M25 area abit more wallet freindly.

Its crazy eh ! have you ever looked inside the key too ! one tiny pcb with a the rolling code equation thing, and the transmitter.

Someone got one for abot £70 before but I dont remember from where, sorry.

Yeah they cost tons..bloke in front of me at Renault was charged way more for his Espace.

if ur gonna order it then use Renault Romford as we get a 10% discount which i know still aint a lot off £140 but itll help ease the blow

check this,

went into my local dealer cos my spare key which had never been used wasnt workin. they changed the battery and still wouldnt work. so blokey goes ill get you new one for £100!!!!!actually startin laughin at him and then his mate comes have a look, took battery out, and guess what...

the bloke had put it in the battery the wrong way round the muppet!! so obviously startin laughin even more at the gimp

Dont take this the wrong way but didnt you feel like a muppet too for taking your key to a renault dealer just cause the battery was flat ??

I paid £70 for a brand new 172 Key from Renault Oldham. This included £20labour to code it up!

I still have the invoice somewhere so ill try and dig it out.

next nearest dealer to me is renault colindale... service seems better but couldnt tell ya what there prices are like - hopefully theyll sort my car friday anyway - if you havent it sorted by then ill ask when im in there?

is it not possible just to get a new key blade rather than the whole key inc transponder.... Im actually a locksmith but I dont deal with vehicle locks... I wish I did if I could charge £140 for one key ... I know most transponder keys cut by your local locksmith (if they have the equip to do them) will be around £50-£70... problem is the renault key fob has the central locking button... but I would seriously try to get the key blade only...

Anyone know where you can get a Mul-T-Lok key cut? I dont have the code, just one key, I need another.

Incidentally Sh**roen charge £30 for my VTS key but the alarm fob is seperate and another £40.

Depending which one it is, I can get you multi lock keys Chris... does it have a black plastic rectange top?? you would need to send me a key to duplicate from if you have lost the card... pm me if interested

I think I have a spare renault key, obviously it wont fit the lock but maybe you could have it (if I can find it) and just pay the £20 to have it coded to your car??

But I have seen them forsale on ebay with uncut blades ready for cutting, I think £40 (search under kangoo I think)

£140 sounds about right - had to replace my key just before Xmas!!! £85.00 +vat for the key and then a further £30.00 to have it coded to the car!

JONGSR4 got a key done quite cheap. Ill ask him where. Was only £40 I think for a 106 XSi transponder. Mobats or somewhere i think (south london)

last time iasked it was 70 quid for non central locking (chip only), 90 odd quid for c/l version and a tenner for a blade - you only needthe blade, right?

If your after a cheaper key then get one from ebay - they come up all the time.
