£3000 insurance

  Fabia VRS Special Ed
Basically I've got a 1.2 Clio (51 reg) and I'm on my first year of driving (started in April 2009). I was paying £1000 3rd party before I passed my test (provisional) with Quinn Direct, I passed in June and my insurance jumped to £3000 after I called them to let them now...Does this seem right to any of you?

So I'm paying £3000 for 3rd party insurance...

I have a few mates that are on their own insurance too on bigger cars, fully comp for less money??? How can this be right???

Any ideas/advice?

Cheers
Liam

It'll have increased because on a provisional you can only drive around with someone in the car with you, now you've passed you don't need anybody, so you're technically more a risk...

I understand why it went up, but compared to other people I've spoken to it's a LOT more than anyone else is paying...

Get some quotes from some other companies. Not these comparison sites either which are s**t.

Might just be your insurance company ripping you off. Also stick your mum and dad on the insurance as well. Might bring it down a bit.

I live in Widnes, Cheshire....I'm not sure about the postcode tbh, my Dad is on my car with 28 years NCB, & mum with 20.

any ideas of who to ring? & if I was to change to another company (I'm currently on Pay monthly) would my NC restart??

I always bounce around Admiral, Bell and Elephant. Always been cheapest for me.

I'd just check all your details to begin with. Then get shopping around. I don't think £3,000 is right personally.

My car is modded (aesthetically) but it was 3k before I did anything to it anyway.

I just put Fully Comp into Quinn (the insurance company I'm already with) and it's £700 cheaper...WTF?!?!?!

I'd want it cheaper too!

Who have you tried?

Sky are meant to be good, but have a lot of exclusions.
Flux are good as are Greenlight. Alot will be age dependant though.

Basically when I started my insurance, I used comparison sites....My Dad has been with DirectLine for 19 years and they said 4k FC...Just tried DirectLine & Churchill and neither were able to return a quote.

Comparison websites are next to useless. I've never ever had a sensible quote from one of them.

Having your parents on the policy is all well and good, but your Dad's 28 years NCB is going to be tied up in his own car...

Try buying a Max Power / FastCar mag .. flick through and have a look at whichever picture of Jackie Degg is in there this month, and then scoot to the back for the insurance companies ! Find some young driver orientated ones and start calling them directly (in the morning perhaps, huh?)

Good luck !!

How old are you Liam?

Basically as it's modded, comparison sites and the likes will be a waste of time, you NEED to go to a specialist.

There's loads out there, sticky at the top of this section by TheBoosh! - have a look at that.

mine stayed the same when i passed £500 before i passed £500 when i passed and that was on a 2.0Ltr Diesel Vectra then went to my clio and that was £450.

£3000 Seems WAY to much to me..

17 Daz, I'm the lad who came to you for the suspension btw lol (just incase you'd forgot).

Ahhh right cheers I'll take a look now....Tbh the only mods on the car are the wheels + suspension, I'd be MORE than happy to put standard wheels back on and put it higher if it meant much cheaper insurance bud lol.

Yeah I knew who you were, lol just couldn't remember your exact age ;)

Insurance at your age will drop massively if you do it as standard, try it on a comparison site.

HIC are really good for younger drivers so try giving them a go, 3k doesnt seem right at all.

Surprised you can get insurance on credit at 17 tbh, best to get your parents to lend you the money/get a 0% credit card on your behalf and save on the interest.

The insurance goes through my mum/dad's account, I pay them each month before the due date.

Get them to get a 0% interest credit card (I think Tesco do 12 months), pay it with that and pay the bill for them. Saves you paying interest on it.

im paying £2990 on my 1.2 04 plate fully comp with all my mods declared and im 18 with no NCB so £3000 third party is .... wel wow, if your not going to modify it you can go with direct line, have your dad as the policy holder and you as a named driver, and you can still build up your NCB, but to keep you NCB when you come to insure the car on your own, yo will have to insure it with direct line, i did this but couldnt go with direct line 2nd year as i wanted to modify my car lol

Tis very naughty doing that, you're the main driver of the car (which will be obvious to an insurance assessor as its a modded 1.2 clio, and id expect your dad has a car)

im 17 with quinn, exactly the same story.
went from 700 to 3k on a mk3 astra 1.4, i didnt change it for 2 weeks because i knew i was changing the car. i bought a 306 1.6 (same ins group) and checked online and they wanted 3k again, i phoned up and quiried it and they said 1600 (including the original 800) im now insured on a 1.2 clio on that same policy and its the same price.
also quinn dont charge any more for mods that arnt performance related. Iv got 2 seats colour change wheel change alloys suspension and bodywork = free, exhaust = £40
hope that makes sense
