02 Clio 1.2 16v Crank Sensor Fault.? Big Job..?

  Shhh
Car would not start before, had the orange fault light on the instrument panel (bottom right). The RAC man came out and it started straight away. Got him to put his laptop into the car and the crankshaft sensor came up as being faulty.

He showed me where it was on the 1.2 and it looks a right pain to get to. Has anyone changed one of these. The car is out of warranty. Anyone done this job and can advise me on what tools would be needed, or is it best to leave it to the local garage. We have minimum tools here.

Can pattern parts be used, so therefore not renault parts.

This happened to on an old car I had (Ford Orion) the new sensor was about £10 I think and took the garage minutes to replace.

  CB600FS
1/4" Drive Ratchet
1/4" Drive 10mm Socket
Pick/Small screwdriver

Held in by 2X10mms ontop of the G/Box Bell housing, undo them (Don't drop them) Then pull it out a little, unclip the little block plug.

Then do same in reverse to fit new one.

  Shhh
Gf's dad got the garage to do it. The lack of tools made me say no in the end. The car was my old car, and the gf's dad bought it from me last christmas for £3600 (2002 1.2 16v expression on a 02 plate on 34k). The car was worth about £4400 but that was the value i was offered in a p/x. The warranty ran out, and as it was my old car he come to me for advice, well it seems to be all the time... hmm...lol...

Oh well... car fixed now.. £57.10 later. (£17 part, £30 ish labour)

Thanks guys.
