1.2 16v drinking oil, well....sipping anyway.

al

  ST on the way...
Is it normal for the 1.2 16v engines to use a bit of oil?

The little marker on the dash dropped by half a mark a couple of weeks ago so I topped it up, had a look yesterday and it's dropped half a mark again.

Reason I ask is cos my 1.6 16v nevery drank any oil at all.

Is it simply because the 1.2 16v is a cheap engine?

Thanks :)

Al check your sump plug & oil filter, if its got the metal oil filter there made on the cheap, and the joins are s**t so can leak a little. Best way if you haven't got a ramp is to take the OSF wheel off.

Check if you've got an ally sump aswell, as some people put the wrong washer on the sump plug.

Once it's got a few miles on it they will start to drink a bit i've got a nearly new one at the moment and in 12k havn't had to top up at all. My engine before that I never had to change the oil on it'd just drink it so fast lol.
Renault say I think anymore than 500ml per 1000 miles is excessive.

mine burns, well more like spits out and spillsALL of its oil in 1,000 miles lol

dont trust the dash computer, mine told me it was full when really it was bellow minimum and nearly killed my engine, very common problem some dont work from day 1
