What does everyone achieve on average with combined driving.

i do a lot of motorway driving and i average about 30-32. if im really trying hard it will be around 33-34. is this normal?

what does everyone else get?

Well my friend gets 38ish pottering around town in his 1.2 16v dynamique, so you should see better than that on the motorway. I did a journey in my sport yesterday and averaged over 40mpg on the motorway. Somethings wrong with your car.

Either you drive round at more than 5,000 RPM constantly, or there is an issue with your car!

I got 39.9MPG in my 182 from Manchester to Birmingham and back at 70mph on Tuesday.

ETA: I was so close to 40!

That will be why then if u shag it will be bad on fuel

i used to get 46 combined cycle in my 1.2 never dropped below 40

172 is averaging around 40mpg but i think my A road and motorway trips are hiding how bad it is around town due to using £40 a week rather than the £30 odd in the 1.2

yeah but to be fair on the motorway i drive about 80/90ish.

so its revving its little balls off.

Either way I still don't think it should be that low... and not best of ideas to advertise the fact you speed on the interwebby.

and really trying hard you get 33-34 (is trying hard driving at 89 rather than 90?) for me trying hard would be a steady 65-70, and at that speed in a 1.2 you should be hitting 40+ without a doubt!

PS. Where abouts in the wonderful Manchester are you, just out of interest?

I managed 53mpg over about 20 miles a few days ago, driving Very carefully.
Normal driving will see about 42mpg, though I think the trip computer lies tbh.

Trip is really really cleaver mate takes into account alot of factors only thing is it tends to hide were your doing ur lowest mpg on the clio where it only has one figure

The alfa had one for current and one for average was really useful

on the motor way you will tend to find the mpg actually isnt that bad tbh. The egr valve ( not sure one your eng im just generalizing ) will kick in if left at a steady speed and your not dropping and accelerating rapidly.. imo you probably need a good service. nothing like a clean air filter for good mpg!

Driving mine to work and back is a round trip of about 40miles, mixed driving, including some in traffic, and some hearty A road driving i am averaging around 39-40mpg. When i go up to Coventry, a 90ish mile trip i am normally cruising at a good pace i am seeing 37ish.
My mpg dropped lately, but after a good service, especially air filter, it improved.
When was your last service?

If it was just a sticker then heyho maybe a different filter or something, but the different engine cover is intriguing me!lol

first off what does the normal engine cover look like? i was lead to believe it had the 1.2 sticker on it but this one is just plain and solid black and covers the whole engine.

Above is the normal engine cover, the grey plastic cover just unclips off. What year is your car? Picture of your engine bay will be good when you can

Probably around the same as you, 30/35. I got 28mpg average out of a tank once lol.

Only time I've ever got 45+mpg was a 5 hour trip at 64mph with one stop.

You'll see it sink if you cruise above 3.5k in 5th TBH. Anything below that is sipping territory.

As Joey says, the later models had a different air box set up which is on top. So your engine cover and set up will look different to the picture you posted up

Edit: Bit slow typing there.lol

Give it a good service. I was averaging 38mpg, oil, plugs, air filter, coil pack and ht leads later and I am getting a minimum of 42mpg. Usually get between 42-44mpg but have had as much as 48mpg out of a tank.

I was getting a slight misfire hence changing the coil pack etc and it cured it instantly

Ok, I put in £20 petrol (roughly 19 litres) and I get about 100 miles from it, is this any good?

I thought this myself, it seems to be eating my petrol in the last 2 weeks, its after the backbox and exhaghst were replaced I think.

Any ideas on whats causing it? Lambda sensor been replaced along with backbox and center pipe.

Are you sure theres not a leak? No smells of petrol or anything?

When was the last time it was properly serviced?

Have you checked the diagnostics? (Press and hold the button on the wiper stalk and turn the ignition on)

No smells of petrol, and nothing under the car either, ive cheked everytime.

No idea on service, ive had it for about 6 weeks, came with no service history.

Button on the wiper stalk? I didn't think it has one, ill try tomorrow though.
