been driving my mums dynamique tonight since my brakes are fuked (Changing them tomorrow) and was playing with the trip computer (mine doesnt have one) now i know these arnt the most accurate thing in the world but i was amazed at it.

i managed to get it to 17.5mpg when hammering it BUT then was trying to see how high i could get it and had it displaying 87.6mpg at one point!!! it started getting lower and lower but it didnt go under 60mpg croozing at 55mph in 5th!

anyone else tried to see how much they can get?

On a rampage today aren't ya bud!

70mph (indicated) in 5th I can get ~50mpg, don't really need any more than that..

  Inferno 182 w/ Recaros ;)
If you had reset it, then you could get a pretty high number anyway since its pretty instantaneous after you reset.

The trip is very accurate since it runs off the ECU injectro quantity.
In my test after 20k or so it was accurate to 0.1% or something like that.

It just needs some time to settle down say 100 miles minimum.

39 average! on a run, 42/43...........airfilter was shocking tho, serviced it today

is the miles to next refuel accurate, cause when my fuel gets low it just goes as dashs - - -

always does with around 50 or so miles. but orange light wont come on till its almost out iirc.

driving at a steady 60 i can get 65mpg on my display. normal around town driving is around 48ish depending on how hard i drive. lowest ive ever had is 20odd from sitting in traffic with the air conditioning on for some time

  172 cup'd extreme
mine was discusting about 35mpg, when i drive womans 1.2 16v i see how low i can get it but wont go much below 40. her ladylike driving nets her 52mpg WTF no wonder she has more money than me

  1.2 16v Dynamique
If I drive it like a nutter somewhere between 36 and 43 mpg, if I drive it like my Granny then around 45 to 50 mpg, tbh hardly ever check the MPG thingy I just put petty in it when it needs it....

LOL Be cheaper for most of you lot to get a 172/182 then, I get 36mpg on my commute if im driving 80mph motorway and 50/60 on A roads.

Out of work if im hooning i'll get 25/29mpg, but over the course of £20 of fuel, which will last me 160-180miles i'll get between 32-35mpg.

Oh, and the fuel light is set to come on when you have 1 gallon left, therefore if you get 40mpg, you've got a good 35+ miles left in the tank.

Agree.

My old 1.2 16v = 260miles to a tank one the mway
My new 182 = 400 miles to a tank on the mway

Both driven in top at about 80mph

^^ Cheaper if fuel was the only cost to consider.

Plus I'm sat in stop-start (sub 5mph) traffic nearly everyday, I'd be impressed if a 172/182 could get close to 40mpg in that type of driving.

I've found the trip comp to be pretty accurate. My old 1.2 was f**king abismal on the petrol, seemed to have a real drink problem never used to be able to get it above 40mpg and I wasn't hammering it that hard. My 1.6 gets far better economy for the same driving style, I still think to this day that there was someone up with my old 1.2 bar the fooked syncros.
Though it could be I don't drive the 1.6 as hard because I don't need to and I don't notice it.

What other considerations are there? Tyres, brake pads? Neither of which are necessarily expensive. To be honest It's as cheap to run my 172 as it was to run my 1.2, but indeed stop-start its hard to gauge economy.

Well the biggest would be insurance but things like tax, servicing (incl frequency) - the usual things to consider when buying a new car.
Plus, things like the RS running on Premium unleaded as opposed to the supermarket boggo stuff. Not mpg as much as £pg.
I agree the RS is excellent when it comes to performance/running costs etc. But at least in my circumstances - it'd cost more than the 1.2 - and believe me, I've looked! :)

RS will run fine on 95RON, I do tend to use 97/98RON where possible, unless it means paying 110p a litre, but makes no difference really.

Insurance indeed, mine costs me £880, but having said that its only £200 dearer than my 1.2 was. Tax is a b**ch now, but t'is worth the pennies, and servicing at 12k intervals - common practice in most cars.

Sure it's more expensive, but then for the toys, the performance and the overall look of the car it's money thats justified for moi.

Cars are moneypit's by definition though, and if i had my 1.2 still i wouldn't have just paid £500 for some coilovers, i wouldn't pay £180 for inlet matching, £275 for remapping, £40 filter, £320 exhaust. The hidden costs of the performance car bug ;)

Thats because the fuel gauage isn't accurate when there that much fuel in the tank so the trip just gives up no point trying to guess how much fuel is in the tank.
