H22A7 Accord Type R
ok, some of you lot may laugh, very loudly infact lol...........but, I have had a jetex panel filter in my airbox for many months now. I also have spare airbox for the car that i have messed around with lots and lots, drilling holes in it etc etc.........but i got bored and stuck my proper, sealed box back in. So, last night, gf was watchin Enemy of the state, i decided to pick up my spare airbox and have a think........i then went down to the basement and picked up a saw. I cut ALL the box off, just leaving the adapter plate that bolts onto the engine and clips underneath. This means that my Jetex panel filter is held in place securely, except ALL of the filter is exposed to get air. when u open the bonnet, U see this Blue filter just sitting there. Now, as an induction kit is just a performance filter sitting in the engine bay also, to my thinking, this has the same effect........no surrounding box, air filter sitting on its own............agree???? I have my cold air pipe facing the filter, which is fed fron behind the grill, taking air straight up to it (this pipe is too small though, as it used to fit into the cold air feed on the standard air box, so this will be upgraded to a larger bore pipe......) So, once i get a bigger cold air pipe, i will have better air flow to the filter.
So, the result??? Well, all the talk about some induction kits being very quiet on this engine...........hmmm.......all i can say is this is fcukin LOUD!!!!!!! bit too loud really!?! The car is miles more responsive at the lower rev-range, makes a wicked bark at 3000-3500rpm, and sounds cool under tunnels! Every roundabout i came off in 2nd, the front end was pushing wide (mainly due to the -3 degrees slippy roads i guess). the car is so responsive!!! I will post some pics once i get enough light if anyone is interested to see what im going on about, but if you want to get an idea yourself, (for those of u without induction kits)........take off your airbox, leaving the filter sitting in the rectangular shelf, put some tape in to make sure the filter doesnt fall out...........and go for a drive! By now no doubt a lot of you are laughin at the stupidity of this, but if you think about it, it is the same principal as an induction kit.......except the WHOLE of the Rectangular air intake is used to suck air in, not a little circular pipe that a Pipercross kit adapts it to.
Im not sure how long i will keep it like this, as it is very loud, but im going to keep with if for a little while to see how it goes........and once i get a beefier air feed to the filter (possibly a pipercross cold air feed pipe), ill see how it goes on the motorway, with all the cold air getting forced to the filter. ...................go on then everyone............rip me to bits lol............ill post some pics cause im sure ill be the only person to have one of these lol!!!
