strange cause my sh*tty 1.2 8v clio authentique does a 0-60 in 12.3 seconds! ive timed it a few times and it always stays around that time and all i have on it is a 1.6 megane mailto:k@n">k@n

i think it would probably be about 11 secs 0-60

They can do over a hundred as a few people on here will tell you, Renault quote its top end as 106 but ive been told it can do more although I wouldnt like to try it!

I think youd be looking at a fair way over 30 seconds to 100mph. The 1.6 16v will do 100 in about 23/24 seconds and the 1.8 8v RSi about 25 seconds. Therefore less for the 1.4 16v and less again for the 1.2 16v.

Like I keep saying tho whats the point in worrying about 0-60 and top speed in a little 1.2 they are simply not designed for that sort of driving, as long as mine keeps up wiv the rest of the traffic and looks nice im not worried

23/24 secs 0-100 for a 1.6 16v!! No chance, if you look in older issues of Evo (about a year ago) your see they list the 1.4 16v Si and 1.6 16v RSi with 98 and 110 bhp respectitvly. The 110 bhp 1.6 16v got 32 secs to 100 when tested by Evo. The 1.4 is a tad slower but not much.

A 1.2 16v would be about 40-45 secs.

more like 60secs. And thats dropping it off a clif.
No their abit quicker than that, about 45 secs id say.

The Clio 1.6 16v is let down alot by its weight, thats why it can only match a Saxo VTR to 100 mph (32 secs).

i will give this a go tonight after work,

the A14 has no speed cameras in one direction from where i am based

though it will be by stop watch (and the road isnt flat - but it is just for a random time)

Dogmaul there is one thing to consider

if i raced you to scotland from london i would whoop your ass

my 1.2 will do 60 in 3.5 sec, and gets to 100 in 4.2 sec. it is the fastest car in the universe, and it does 90mpg.

shame, in real life, it does 35mpg if im lucky, and i time my 0-60 with an advent calender. for every day that passes, i eat a chocolate

Rhys gave the time for the 1.6 16v as 23/24 seconds as That is what the time was for my car! This was on a run a few weeks ago. We calibrated the speedo using GPS and timed it using an AP22. 0-60 in 8.5 sec and 0-100 in about 23 seconds. This was with 2 people in the car and a full tank of fuel.

So there is your proof.

Thankyou Goodnight!

No way my friend, sorry not being funny but a Clio 1.6 16V will not do 0-100 in 23 secs! Are you telling me its as quick as a VTS/106 GTi ??! No chance. For a start it has 10 bhp less and secondly its about 100 kg heavier!

Hmm does seem quick - a standard RS1800 is around 23secs to 100 - 128bhp/990kg

a Valver/106 Gti/VTS/Golf 16v mk2 Gti are just below.

Ralphy - same as you, I dont want to cause more arguments either, but in as accurate a test as I could manage, I checked Oakleys speedo, had the AP22 set up to match, and theres no way it took 30 seconds to get to 100.

Dont get me wrong, it gets left a long way behind the 172 and Cup. It was several hundred feet away by 100mph) whereas many of us know that thats not where a VTS will be at 100mph ;). But still, the 0-100 is in the region of 24 seconds (will check in a bit).

The old RSi will do 0-100 in about 25.5 seconds. Also timed this.

OK couple of questions, one guy said his 1.2 did something like 115 but not since he fitted 17s, surely 17s will make it faster? they should make the speedo read more not less!

Had mine to 126 ish same as a couple of other people but obviously the accuracy not likely!! Should get a go with a gps soon will let you know!

Tomclio? How do you get so many miles? Do you drive really carefully? If i drive carefully I can keep it above 40mpg if i cane it im lucky if I see 35mpg?

Maximum of 335 miles a tank? Anyone any ideas?

Well if his Clio 1.6 is pulling 100 mph in 23-24 secs, my VTS must be doing it in 18 secs cos my mate has one and i consistantly toast it.

So,

Clio 1.6 16V - 0-60 in 9.6 secs

VTS - 0-60 in 7.6 secs

That means the VTS takes 15 secs to do 60-100 mph and the Clio takes 13.4 secs!

The VTS and the 1.6 16v are kind of worlds apart in performance. Id be the first to say that the VTS is quick. At least certain ones I can think of. I have more difficulty in believing that a VTS takes 22 second to get to 100mph than believing that a 1.6 16v can get there in 100mph.

All Im basing this on is my own experiences of timing the 2 cars. Besides, look at Craggys 1/4 mile time. Im talking about the 15.6 one he ran as standard with full interior. That was quicker than my old MK2 172s 1/4 mile time at York....kind of speaks for itself.
