1.2 16V Times

well it seems these forums are being monitored by the police

went to do my 0-100 run today, got on the a14 and was immediately followed by a police car, come off 2 junctions later, cops stayed on the a14, drove through the countryside to get to the next junction and there was another cop car waiting, just as i overtake him, he pulls out behind me,

after that i just gave it up as a bad job

Cheers Rhys for backing me up!

No way am I saying that my 1.6 is quicker than a VTS! Its more in line with the VTR. But these figures that we have said are what we recorded! Fact!

These are two run that we did a few months ago (BTW the speedo was not calibrated then, so that is why the 0-60 takes abit longer!)

Start Speed 0.0mph
mph s g ft

10 1.06 0.55 6
20 1.92 0.41 25

50 6.34 0.26 260
60 8.88 0.19 467
70 11.4 0.16 708
80 15.33 0.13 1146
90 19.36 0.09 1650

0-100 in 23.99 seconds

Had a go at a 0-100 in the dynamique last night. The time was done on a slight down hill on the A577. I think it was about 47secs. Very impressed. Ill post the AP-22 data tonight.

clio dynamique - for AP22 times to be okay, you need to do it on a totally flat road that doesnt change gradient. Any gradient changes will put the unit well out.

I know mate. Ive noticed this when I know some 0-60 test. A slight down hill can take 1sec of the time.

The problem I have is I dont know any long enough flat roads to do a 0-100 time.

I know this is going to cause a stir but I have a 1.6 dynamique with just short of 30k on the clock and 0-100 is consistently around 22-23 seconds. Im prepared to accept a small margin of error on the timing as we used a hand held computer with GPS speed measurement but its definately not 8 seconds out !

Stubod, I timed mine after reading this thread and was getting 23-24 seconds that was with a passenger and a sub the size of a small country in the boot.

local thats interesting as we all seem to be getting around the same times, Evo must have had some bloater driving to get a time of 30 seconds !

Actually, downhill will ADD to the time and uphill will make it seem quicker! Sounds odd, but remember the ap22 works on acceleration and deceleration. If you go down a hill, it tips the unit forwards, the same as would happen under deceleration. Vice-versa, uphill tips the unit back, making it "think" that you are accelerating faster.

Easy way to see this effect it to park on a flat piece of road at the bottom of a hill. Set the AP22 to time your acceleration. Set off and watch the unit as you start to go up the hill. Even though you will only be doing say 20mph, itll record you as doing 50mph as it will record the sudden tip backwards as a sudden burst of acceleration.

The AP22 can be pretty accurate, but you really have to calibrate it using a GPS system, adjusting the "tilt" factor so that it updates exactly in line with real speeds. You also have to find a road that is level. I have to drive about 10 miles to find a decent flat piece of road, but its worth it to get the unit to work properly.

Well, timed the VTS today using some top of the range Datron timing gear which my friend owns, very expensive. This is what we got with just me in the car.........

0-10 mph = 0.998 secs

0-20 mph = 1.976 secs

0-30 mph = 3.011 secs

0-40 mph = 4.447 secs

0-50 mph = 5.985 secs

0-60 mph = 7.435 secs

0-70 mph = 10.126 secs

0-80 mph = 13.236 secs

0-90 mph = 15.456 secs

0-100 mph = 18.876 secs

Not bad for a 1.6:)

Heres my times for the 1.2 16v

mph s g ft hp
10.0 1.04 0.46 7 26
20.0 2.28 0.34 35 38
30.0 3.99 0.25 99 44
40.0 6.13 0.19 210 47
50.0 8.72 0.14 382 47
60.0 12.53 0.11 689 49
70.0 17.16 0.08 1133 48
80.0 24.98 0.04 1995 44

This was done on a flat road.

mph s g ft hp
10.0 1.03 0.45 7 25
20.0 2.09 0.35 31 40
30.0 3.77 0.26 94 46
40.0 5.85 0.20 201 49
50.0 8.31 0.16 364 51
60.0 12.04 0.11 665 50
70.0 16.45 0.08 1087 51
80.0 22.84 0.06 1790 53
90.0 31.12 0.04 2828 54
100.0 46.86 0.02 5033 56

This was done on a slight down hill.

I honestly believe the 1.6 RSI would give a VTS a reasonable run for its money up to 100mph. Maybe not Ralphs cos his seems particularly fast, but a standard one. Ive driven one as a courtesy car and I was astonished at how fast it was in terms of midrange pull. Im not saying its fastER than a VTS, or even as fast, but the 1.6 16v has on paper almost identical 0-60 to the 106 GTi, making it a bit of a performance bargain, when you look at list price/extras/insurance cost. Hence, even though I swore never to buy another Renault after the experience Ive had with this one, I may well be unable to resist a 1.6 Dynamique in a few months time when the finance is up on my 1.2! :)

As regards the 17"s/top speed thing, I know technically bigger wheels with a larger rolling radius should give a higher top speed, but you try bloody well getting there!!! With standard wheels on, it takes a hell of a lot of long straight road to get up to speed, and once youre over 100mph the acceleration is like 1mph per minute at a push!! Now bearing in mind that 17"s will affect the acceleration by, say 8 per cent or so at a guess, at that sort of speed it takes an absolute age to build up pace!!

I could do with a shot of some decent timing gear:( Good times BTW!

TBH, I dont think the 1.6 16v RSi has a chance in keeping with a VTS even to 60mph. At 100 the VTS will be along way ahead. Ive not seen many VTSs, but theyre quick!

Not being down on the RSi/1.6 16v, but the VTS is a much quicker car.

Rhys

Agree. The Clio Mk2 1.6 16v (called 16V, then RSi, now as trim level) is no way near a VTS or 106 GTi. Peugeot state very conservative performance figures, reputed to be based on two occupants, full petrol and a boot of luggage.

Thats normal! All manufacturers are meant to test a car at half payload (which equates to about what you just described!!!)

The thing is that the 1.6 16v was not meant to be the performance model of the clio, where as the VTS/GTI are the performance models of their respective cars.

So you when compareing the clio to the saxo or 106 then you have to compare them with the 172.........So clio wins handsdown!!!

The 106 GTi IS tested with a driver, passenger and half a tank, hence the 0-62 time of 8.7 secs!! The VTS is tested with driver only and half a tank and is quoted at 7.8 secs 0-62 mph in the brochure.

Considering the VTS is about £3-4 k cheeper than a 172 i think its superb value for money. It may be SLIGHTLY behind on straight line acceleration but not much. And round a twisty B road or on a track theres hardly anything in it.

Oh and one more often overlooked item.

Its a slightly stronger AX.

if you crash it at anything above 70mph you have a large chance of not waking up.

they dont fair well when crashed

Must be a heavy b*****d that adds a second to the 0-60 time! ;) Remind me never to take him/her for a Maccie Ds when Im buying!!!

Ive heard Peugeot play down their cars to keep insurance costs down. The 106 GTi is group 13 while the VTS is group 14, dont understand how they work that out when both cars have the SAME engine!!

VTS does 60 in 7.8sec!!!!!! Christ!!!!! (does that include the bodykit and bling blingin chrome rims????:devilish:)

well my 1.2 16v does

0-60 in 11.4secs

0-100 in 30/31 secs

all done on camera

will eventually get round to hosting them on the web
