1.2 16v Vs. 1.2 8v

  Storm Grey 200
Went for a drag race my Mk2 Ph1 1.2 16v Vs. my mates 1.2 8v, i won. :)
good times, also went go karting, fun stuff

Ha not really no... He claims he only lost because of his bad start, just hasnt got the power more like.

  Non RS : (
yea bet he was spinning the tyres in 3 gears lol how did u cope with the G-force

Da

  Less
8v will have no chance over the 16v's. I've driven both and believe me the 16valves make all the difference! :)

well ipset now, a fellow 8valve has just been slated:(

Going to have to get that remap from angel works i think...

Yea, its the last of the mk1 ph1 shape, its got the body etc of a phase one but a facelift engine... meaning two haynes manuals

  None
No they don't ive tested it. 16v's have a better top end (60+) thats all. My modded 1.2 8v used to beat 1.2 16vs >:)

16Vs own 8Vs IMO.

They are far more revvy and whilst low down torque is better in 8V, if kept in then power band 16Vs win.

Poor 8v :( But yeah mine aint the quickest of things. Still can have fun, you just wont get caught for speeding lol

  Mercedes C Class Sport
the 1.2 16v is a fair bit quicker than the 8valve. I used to have a mk1 ph3 1.2 8v, same engine as my mates mk2 ph1 1.2 8v and my mk1 was a tad quicker!

  PH-QUICK
ha! the 8v at the start of this is my beast! and i DID get a bad start

Though tbh an extra passenger in the 16v and its lost all its edge - isnt the 16v ment to be more ecomoical on the old wallet as well???

around town you wont notice a difference infact the 8v feels a bit quicker due to cable throttle being more responsive and better low down torque.

over 3,000rpm tho the 16v is quicker, i love my little 1.2 16v even now that im used to the 2.0 16v 172

I've owned my friend's 1.2 8v plenty of times lol. She is quicker than me on acceleration, but once i've hit third she's left for dust. (figuratively speaking, not literally.)

^ Spot on with that comment. Once I hit around 3k rev's my 16v gradually starts to pull away from my friend's 8v.

left for dust in a 1.2 lol only reason my 1.2 was fun was because it was so fukin loud poping and banging and about 2cm from the ground! handles like f**k and sounds the part, just really fukin slow

^ Her and other 1.2's are the only cars I can actually have a chance against lol. It's the same with all 1.2's I think you'll find. Fortunately I don't race cars on the road, I know id get owned everytime lol.

One of the first races i had in my 1.2 16v was with an 8v. coming onto a dual carrigeway he was about 5 car lenths in front. knew he was caining it as he exhaust sounded like he was driving a jcb's truck. Caught him pretty quick and carried on going past smiling :D Still, by the time i was in front i prob didn't even hit 80 as there not quick cars :dapprove:

The 8v is a single overhead cam whereas a 16v is double overhead cam. Therefore the 8v has more torque lower down the rev range but at 3500 rpm 16v engines engage all 16 valves. Before 3500rpm they run on only 8valves to save fuel.

Drove with afroahmed before once, he has a 8v and i have a 16v and i think i'd kill his car!

Not a race, but was driving behind him... and i could sense that i could over take him easily

  Shed.

not f**king kidding.

Ive out driven 1.4 8v clios before, faster acceleration and a better top speed.

the 1.2 16v is still piss poor though.
