1.2 52 plate engine change

how easy is it to change the engine from a 1.2 to a bigger one? what do ppl recomend putting in? girlfriends car is so slow i wanna change the engine and get more ponnies pushing it down the road!

its currently a 1.2 on a 52 plate

Err forget the idea any Clio engine will fit, mounts are the same as such.

172/182 engine is the popular transplant but do a read up its not just the engine which is changed value for money wise chnage the car.

as shes only young i wanna put something like a 1.4 or 1.6 in... 2lt will end up in a hedge! much of a job changing wiring? or is it pretty simple to do?

i would suggest selling it and buying another car, i've done the conversion (1.2 to 2.0) and its hassle

is there a 1.6 engine for the clio? sorry not a clio man but love driving hers, just not fast enough and found driving a mates cup boring (sorry)

so you love driving a standard 1.2 but find a cup boring? and what are you expecting from a 1.4 or 1.6 thats going to be less boring than a cup?

as edde said you can use any of the clio engines (1.4 16v 98bhp, 1.6 16v 110bhp, 2.0 16v 170bhp) but its not worth the hastle.

Im also in the business of wanting to change my 1.2 engine for something bigger. But i keep hearing that it's a hassle. What kind of problems are we talking about? Is it this specific size car that makes it a hassle or just engine changing in general, cause i know many people that have done it so what is it that makes it a problem?:dapprove:

Done it in other cars but take people advice here forget it for the hastle vs price etc.

Problems are usualy

ECU/UCH failed
Gearbroxes failed
Electrics wiring not working or fitting
Issues with parts not being fitted right and failing
Need to sort ABS/PAS/air con etc depending on loads on doner car/car used etc.
Cost of the bits plus bit you should chnage when you are doing the job easily tops £500. cambelt £150 clutch £80 all fluids £100 brakes £200 (just for the fronts
Need to sort out what exactly your doing and swopping then sort it all out so it will all work.
Often need a renault Clip computer to get it all to work.

The cars are all the same bodywork wise though and shell wise.
