1.2 decat ?

what would be the best solution to fitting a decat pipe to a 1.2 ?

would it require a custom job or can you buy replacement pipe/down pipe off ebay ?

Would have to be a custom jobby mate for a proper decat pipe. I did the 'ghetto' decat mod on my old 1.2 and bashed the internals out the inside of a spare cat. Popped alot more but sounded about 'tinny'.

You really wont notice any difference, may feel a tiny bit more responsive but I only noticed a slight noise increase with my K-tec system.

Bang the s**t out of a standard cat. It's not going to make any difference to performance whether you buy a proper one or just bodge one up.
Also, if you're expecting any pops or bangs you're going to be disappointed! They're really boring engines

My 8v sounds nice if I blip the accelerator when slowing down, has the 16v head stopped this from happening?

I tried all sorts in my 16v - hardly anything would make it pop. Just got the occasional one when changing down and letting the clutch out slowly... The induction noise is pap on the 16v's compared to 8v's, it's just droney and boomy - could be down to the weird throttle body/inlet mani they have?

No worries! It's the earlier 16v engine I had, looks like this:

I know they updated it at some point with a different throttle body and moved the air box to the top of the engine - around 2003? Might be a different story with regards to sound, but I doubt it tbh!

No harm in doing it for the sound - just do it the cheapest way you can!

I might still have mine actually... I'll check when I next go to my parents, but if I do £25 takes it. lol

I must say, on the 8v, it did give a noticable increase in performance. I guess when you only have 60hp, every hp counts!

That's true. The only difference I felt was that it freed up the top end slightly. To be expected really, nothing is going to give you massive gains with such a small engine, other than adding a turbo - which would be monumentally stupid! Lol

What's the point in decat a 1.2? It's not going to improve the performance and emissions will fail the MOT. Total waste of time and money

well mines not decatd just a k-tec stainless system (182 style) and mine pops prety much on command, lift off the throttle and it pops sometimes pops when i change gear up and down

not looking for power gains at all lads ! just want it to pop haha cheers for the feedback i think i might take a trip to the scrap yard and buy another 1 then bash the insides out and see how she goes
