1.2 drinking oil!!!

hi, i have a 03 clio 1.2 16v, and it just seems to be drinking oil like crazy! i looked through the manual and it said its Ok to use 0W/40 for maximum protection. so i bought Mobil1 0W/40. but it just seems to be drinking it like mad? Im not sure wether its a leak or if the oil is not correct? any 1 had these problems?

thanks

Try a thicker oil , something like a 10w - 40 , the 0w might be a little too thin .

well i've used over a litre in like 3 weeks? and it keeps dropping below the minimum notch on the dipstick

also the little orange emissions light keeps popping on to, you think this has something to do with it?

that cant be good, either your hittin 90mph everywhere or u've a problem, i would go get it checked out, must be a sensor or summit tellin the car it needs more oil to be burnt up, not too sure tho.
maybe your lamba sensor or summit needs replacing, its not the oil light is it, not too sure what the emissions light is? if its the oil light its coz ur runnin low or a sensor problem.

not sure if the exhaust has some sort of hole in it, it sounds like its blowing a little bit, but they don't always come on at the same time, not sure its its like what MRBILLYUK said, mite be slightly too thin?

i run 15w/40 an its fine, gd performance oil, check ur manifold an cat or anywhere along the exhaust line, any loss of pressure coz effect this, possiblity im sure

how much do you think it would cost for a whole new exhaust then? inc cat. mite try 10w/40 or 15w/40 oil first tho.

lol hold on, dnt jump in2 buyin a whole new exhaust, jesus thats costly, if u have a blow out sumwhere just replce that certain part, the cat is the dearest part as is the manifold but u wud know if u blew them out coz ur car wud sound stock car loud, the centre an backbox is like 40quid each, just look under it an give a wee rev see if any smoke blows through, try the oil, fill it up 2 the max mark with 15w/40 an see how u go lad.

Hang on whats all this bullshit above, it wont be the exhaust but you have probably nakered the CC by burning oil...

Best bet is to get the plugs out check them visually for oil then do a compression test. If one or two pots give a strange reading pay for a leakdown. If the Compos are okay then go back to 10/40 but sounds as though oils getting into cylinders.

We had a 1.2 16v before the Sport, and it did drink a bit of oil like... Our mechanic noted that it had a small leak at the back of the block. I don't know if this is common on these engines, but it might be worth having a look. Have you done the obvious stuff like parked it over paper overnight to check for leaks and checked for mayonnaise in the oil filler?

We had major problems with the emissions light on ours, which ended up being the fact that the fusebox in the engine bay was soaked through, and the relays had all started walking and talking (well, they had grown some green stuff on the connections anyway). Dead easy to sort out, just pull the relays out (make a note of what goes where) and clean off the connections. Flush the whole thing out with plenty of electrical contact cleaner AND LET IT DRY OFF SO IT DOESN'T GO BANG WHEN YOU START IT.:D It's not just ours that had this fault, my friends is doing the same thing. Don't know if it'll sort it out, or if it's even anything to do with it, but maybe somthing to think about trying? On french cars the lights that flash on the dash don't have to relate to anything :S . Still love 'em though...

I've noticed a fraction of Oil behind the block, but it seems old. Mine has been drinking oil. Ive topped it up once since Sept, over that time Ive done 8k. Just pop in some 10w/40. But do he checks as mentioned by cg172.

Love the 1.2 16v mind. Really willing little engine. Properly gutsy considering it's 1149cc. :)

yep, ive put some 10w/40 and both the emissions light and the oil fingy on the lil display have gone, so i fink it must of just been the wrong oil. hope so anyway
