1.2 overheating in traffic

  Lots of Alfas
Was in stop/start traffic yesterday at roadworks and noticed my temp gauge was 3/4 way up the dial and the car nearly stalled, Ive noticed its done it before when I got held up on the M1 a couple of weeks ago. In normal diriving its fine and reaches just under half way up the dial. The cooling fan never came on so is there anyway I can test to see if its working and what might be causing the heat build up?

Its the 1.2 D7F engine.

Mine did exactly this turned out to be air in the system. turn engine on and bleed it from the dust cap on the pipe under the airbox. mine was the same symptoms and air would release from pressure release on the cap of the coolant tank when it got really hot.

Cheers for help joshydee, do you mean the coolant bleed screws, I seem to remember there being 2. Can I get rid of the air without having to bleed the whole system?

their is only two screws mate, just loosen them off a bit and when fluid flows close them listen for air though.to test the fan just connect to wires and a battery to it.although even if the fan works it might not be getting a feed, also could be faulty thermostat but unlikely if its an occasional thing.check the wiring

So start the engine, loosen screws to release air then tighten them when fluid flows?
